Okay hi everyone. I am new to the whole GAP thing. I have GIMP 2.10.14 and I recently managed to install GAP. I followed a tutorial on how to make a GIF and it wants to do the whole filter all layers thing, so I followed the steps but I hit a snag right off the bat because even though I saved the curves settings, when I go to load it, I can't even get to the folder where the curves is saved. So I try saving the curves elsewhere and when I try loading it that way, I get the above error. I have no clue what is going on. I've tried every which way I can to find the folder where the curves was saved to but I can't. Anyone got any ideas and how I can get this to work?

I still have a Gimp 2.8 with Gimp-GAP installed into it. Thing is, hardly anyone uses this plugin after moving to Gimp 2.10.
I was thinking of compiling it for Gimp 2.10 with the 'filter all layers' but never got around to it.

Anyway if you have it installed and you click the wr_curves tool you see this:
Image

from there you have to search for a curves file that you made yourself. Then you have to apply it and continue and then do it for a second time.
No wonder ppl no longer use it IMHO :)
Here is an actual curves file. I can't remember if this takes away alpha or adds it :(

The Gimp 2.8 saved curves format is different from Gimp 2.10 format.

If you export all the layers to individual files, you can apply a saved curve using BIMP, the batch plugin. Then open as layers to get back into Gimp.

Need a linux version of BIMP ? Is it on gimpscripts.net ? Don't know so attached bimp25.zip Unzip put in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/

@Tas_mania --- I did that and saw the pop up but when I search for the curves file, I can't get to the folder where it saved. So I tried saving the file on my desktop and then tried doing it that way, and that error happens every time.

@rich2005 --- How do I do that then? I mean export all the layers into individual files and apply the bimp thing?

P.S. I think I figured out the curves thing though. There's a little section that says "save as old version", I click that and all the steps work and all layers get their curves done.

The BIMP procedure might come in handy sometime.

The BIMP homepage with examples is here: https://alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/

A useful script-fu for exporting layers export-layers-plus.scm is attached. That goes in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/scripts/

...and the procedure as a yt video (no audio) https://youtu.be/l_COWrx4RXI duration 3 minutes.

@rich2005 --- I follow the video but nothing changes once I open the "new" gif. It still looks like it did before adding the steps from the video.

Then somewhere along the process you are doing something wrong.
Do not worry about it.
Use some other procedure

I recon something is not right with your layers. Image > Mode should be RGB. Do the layers have an alpha channel?

Looking at other procedures. You might use the gmic_gimp_qt plugin.
LinuxMint and Gimp 2.10.14 ? Is that Mint 19 using the ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp repo? You could get the plugin from there, otherwise I keep an up-to-date version that uses the older QT5 version here: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-gmic- ... untu-18-04 good for 'buntu 18.04 / mint 19 / (also the gimp appimage)
.
Do not want to get into technicalities but it goes like this:

Make the animation RGB otherwise gmic is greyed out.
Using the gmic basic color correction, adjust the sliders as required.
Set input to all
Set output to in place.

This can be slow depending on number of layers. Remember to work on a copy ;)

60 second animation of that. https://i.imgur.com/wT0kHRT.mp4

@rich2005 --- I followed it exactly. But I do have G’Mic installed on my GIMP 2.10.14 and yes Linux Mint Cinnamon. The GMic is easier and seems to work without a problem. I like that so much better. Less difficulty. Thank you.

@Tas_mania --- I did make sure it RGB and then I notice that it gets all weird and grainy whenever I do the curves after that. But either way, it still doesn’t work. What do you mean by Alpha layer?

This is a good description of the alpha channel:

If you are just doing GIFs and have a medium powerful system I recommend G'MIC 'filter all layers' with Gimp 2.10.

@Tas_mania --- Maybe I am missing something but does G'Mic have the "filter all layers" or are you meaning use G'Mic with whatever I want but make sure to click it under each setting for all layers?

Where it has 'Input Output' below each of the filter settings, I usually select Input Layers > Active (default)
When I'm happy with the filter changes, I go back to Input Layers and select 'All' on the drop-down menu.

@Tas_mania --- Yea I thought that was what you were meaning. I'm doing that too. And to finally answer your previous question, like the one I am testing out now, does have an alpha channel.
