GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Experienced User

I have been using Gimp for years and have never had this happen
Until yesterday, everything was working fine
I use the 3D extrusion filter a lot, but gimp goes so slow that it actually crashes while its resizing
When I open a project it loads really slow and it loads line by line (SLOW)!!!

Nothings changed in a day, No windows update,No new filters nothing of significance
I ran my anti malware/virus programs
reinstalled Gimp
Are there any setting I should look at or something I do to make it run right?
Gimp uses a lot of memory, should I reset the memory in settings
This makes no sense to me why after years its doing this
any ideas would be welcomed

Uninstalling and re-installing never solved any problem if you don't purge it, you might have a corrupted file in your GIMP's profile
To check this out:
Close GIMP, rename the "2.10" folder with something like "bak.2.10", it should be somewhere like /home/YourName/.config/GIMP/2.10/ (I'm on Linux so the path is a bit different than Windosw, something like C:/Users/yourname/AppData/Roaming/Gimp/2.10 I see there viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16545#p228367 or over there > https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/GIMPProfile/ ), once it's renamed

Then start GIMP, this forces GIMP to re-built this directory, like the first time you started GIMP, it will (re)create a new "2.10" directory.
But if you have customized GIMP you will lose your all settings (it will look like the first time you opened it).

Try GIMP...
if it is still slow, then remove that new directory that GIMP created and and rename your "bak.2.10" to "2.10" to get back all your preferences and custom settings, or even faster -> if you did not close that window directory "GIMP", just Ctrl+Z 2 or 3 times in that directory to get back the directory as original

Thanks for answering

I tried what you said but it didnt resolve the problem

I decided to reinstall. I had a lot of plugins and an error that I wanted to get rid of anyway

Its a little better now but is still slower than it was

I Binged gimp running slow,, but nothing I found pertained to me

One day it was running fine the next day it was so slow it would crash.

I am starting to wonder if its Windows itself? I notice after updates they change settings in my files

I have malwarebytes and Window defender installed and am wondering if they could somehow be messing with gimp?
