I am unable to create a new template in GIMP. This hasn't happened to me before with the previous versions and I find it to be strange. When I go to File>Create New and try to create a new template, that section is greyed out.

This is what I mean:


Is there a way to fix this?

Halfway there

1. File > New and create a new blank canvas with the properties you need.
2. File > Create Template (greyed out until (1.) )
3. Give it a name in the Create New Template Dialogue.

Next Time you go to File > New the new template is there.

As a note: The properties are held as text in the file templaterc in your user profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\templaterc and that can be edited

I created a new image and I still don't see the template dialogue lit up. What I want to do is choose a template that's already there. If I recall correctly, there were templates already there for gimp.

OK, it is terminology getting in the way. You want to make a new canvas (aka file) not a template using a pre-set from the drop down menu but for some reason it has gone.

That is a bit strange but not unknown, the standard default configuration files are held in
C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\etc\gimp\2.0 and are copied over when a new profile is created. You can copy the templaterc file over yourself.



Replace the existing file. More worrying is why you have lost the contents of the existing templaterc file.

Edit: Just in case the default templaterc file attached. Unzip it. It is just a rather long text file containing all the parameters.

More worrying isn't why I lost the contents of the existing templates. I think it got lost in the install and I hadn't noticed until now. Thanks for the file.
