photo download failure

I have just downloaded my GIMP program onto my desktop. When I attempt to retrieve an image from my computer, nothing happens. I see my hard drive listed;pictures file listed; but nothing happens. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks

We you go to File> Open New, look at the bottom of the pop up window. It should have an option to Show all files. Click to check and it will show the hidden files.

tried your suggestion but nothing happens-same result no image

Can you supply more info. What king of image? Jpeg, Png, Gif, webp...

Once you find and view your picture are you clicking 'open'?
