I don't know what an inverse halftone filter would do but on top of MareroQ's G'MIC suggestion, there are these plugins/scripts as well: Halftone, JVID Effect F, JVID Effect F2, JVID Effect F3

There is also this: https://gimplearn.net/viewtopic.php?t=471

The JVID halftone effects are here:

Not sure that the OP is speaking about the same things as you... Also not sure why G'MIC did put "(Inv)" (maybe it means "Invert") as it is not the "Inverse" that I think the OP is speaking about...

@tenforty You might need the plugin MatLab or Mathmap or Mathmap there >> viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4550 ?
The use of wavelet seems also to be the way to go >> https://deebuv.wordpress.com/2006/07/14 ... alftoning/
"Wavelet decompose" for the different frequencies >> https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/plug-in-w ... mpose.html

On github I found this https://github.com/MenghanXia/InverseHalftoning
Maybe you can give a try to Fiji (Fiji is ImageJ with plenty plugins) https://imagej.net/software/fiji/ (or depending your distro >> sudo apt install imagej), but not sure it has discrete wavelet transform...

anti-halftoning is removing the half tone pattern, sometimes called de-screening.
The gmic_gimp_qt plugin has descreening filters.

Another way is use a fast-fourier-transform (FFT) plugin. There is one in gmic but I prefer the standalone plugin.

Thank you all very much. The discussion was helpful. "Inverse halftone" is just halftone to continuous tone.
Gmic -> test -> ian ferguson -> descreen worked well.
