I've been learning to put text onto a pic. All going fine until I come to print out and then I see there's some trace of text below the text I put in.
See it there at the bottom of that red text?

What's that about?Image

PLEASE STICK TO THE OP'S ORIGINAL HELP QUESTION NOT THE SUBJECT IN THE PICTURE.

abrogard Not a good place to discuss at all.
Regarding your original question, I have done this and you may have, started to type something and because you couldn't see it started again - in the same instance. You may not have thought there were three lines but if you did this there would have been.
Or you might have duplicated your text layer and moved one down below instead of deleting it.

It looks like you've got at least third line of text to me too.

Suggest:
View -> Show layer boundary, make sure it's ticked.
Make the text layer active by clicking on it in the layers dialog.
Does the layer boundary show the text layer is bigger than the canvass?
Move the text layer to the centre of the canvass so you can see what text is there.
Make the appropriate text edits and then move the text layer back.

thanks for all that.
i notice when I move the red text layer around I see the 'third line of text' - i.e. not a proper line of test but that 'remnant' of it or whatever it is.
That's because the dotted border line disappears when it is selected for moving.
As soon as I stop and release the focus the border comes back and I can see no 'third line'.

On a side note I would recommend that you re-check your math... (I don't care about the subject, just the math)

By roughly looking at your graph at the bottom(first glance at it) without horizontal scrollbar... it's evident that's not reaching 100%, merely a 75%
Thus I did count..
At the bottom (the graph's bar) 6.9+12+13.1+10.4+17.1+12.8 = 72.3 where are the 27.7?
Then your columns on the right side >> 50.65+11.95+9.97+8.53+8.12+3.41+2.59+1.71+0.89+0.41+0.27+0.20+0.20+0.20+0.14+0.07+0.07+0.07+0.07+0.07 =99.59 where are the 0.51
You might say that I cannot read the last line, I cannot, but the number cannot be bigger than 0.07, thus max 99.66 where are the 0.44?

not the place to discuss the chart. I'm available any time at PM or my email.
But I'll say this just quickly, no discussion only a statement, a moderator has already interjected here, perhaps this is excusable :

It is not 'my chart' and hence not 'my math'.
It is a 'walgreen' chart. You can see that at the bottom of the right hand panel.

And the numbers on the bars don't need to sum to 100% and it would be pure coincidence if they did. The numbers refer to what percentage in that category were effected. Not what percentage of the whole. That in fact is what it is all about.

That's all in what I was interested in, so it's not your math, OK :bigthup

Problem: People looking here can see the "evidence" portrayed but not read any counter evidence because everyone has been told not to discuss it. It's too important an issue for that and maybe the OP should have replicated the problem with a different image.

Hi Eris,
I don't think "the thing we are not allowed to talk about" is even in the Gimp Chat code of conduct. It was a group decision while in the throes of communal neurosis IMHO.

There is an assumption we can talk about that 'thing' somewhere else but nobody actually knows where :)
I've edited my comment @2.

I don't see how the OP could have replicated the problem with a different image when the question he is asking is how did the fault happen in the first place.

The red text is on a while rectangle so maybe it was merged down and something odd happened then. Hard to know without the .xcf file. Personally I avoid merging layers unless absolutely necessary.

I'm not convinced it's spam as this looks like the same poster asking for different text help without specifying the text:
https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-How-T ... Text-Layer
Plus his previous posts on the forum seem genuine too e.g.
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17242

I know what it's like to make mistakes doing simple operations as I'm currently trying to learn to use a different graphics program and even the basic environment is baffling as yet so I hope I will get help when I ask basic questions.

I just wanted to know about the error.

So okay, I can't find out.

No problem. I'll just remove that text layer and do another one.

It's no big deal as you can tell by the fact that all was days ago and I still haven't progressed any further with it: that's how important it looms in my life.

Just saying.

Hi teapot, good point. Pity abrogard didn't know about the unwritten rule on the subject we are forbidden to talk about :) Why can't we get more clairvoyants posting problems here?

Anyway, I'm designing spam logos. This is called 'Perceptual Spam Yum Yum'.

there's forums available if you really want to talk about 'forbidden' things, I think?

Well, sometime you will want to fix it or prevent the same thing occurring again. When you ask a question of the "Why does this happen..." type. Give as much information as possible. A screenshot of the layers usually helps. If the graphic is flattened and a single image, your workflow becomes a guess.

Very obvious from your image the text layer has multiple lines and you just caught the top of the third line.
While editing you can enable View -> Show All and that shows anything outside the canvas which gets lost when you export as a png or jpeg.

If you still have that and the text is still a text layer, just edit the text to remove the surplus line(s).

Otherwise if the text is flattened, erase or paint out. Easy in your case, it is a white background.

This a 1 minute animation of those possibilities. https://i.imgur.com/rS5QOTA.mp4
