Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing the same or similar problem – when stroking a path, GIMP suddenly decides not to stroke the path with the foreground colour, but instead it fills the whole canvas with that colour.

This happens only with the “Stroke with the paint tool” (emulate brush dynamics) and not with the “Stroke line” option.

It seems to matter not though whether the brush dynamics are set on or are off.

This seems to have happened only since I upgraded to 2.10.34 (rev 2) some time back now. Yes, I should have posted this earlier!!.

Only way out is to close down Gimp and restart it.

Might be the version OMG. Try the new 2.10.36 and see if it still happening. Otherwise create a new profile folder.

Only two things I can think of right now are.... Your setting your stroke line very high or your hitting fill path instead.

What is the size of the brush?

Ofnuts - brush size typically varies between 5 and 15 pixels and the issue randomly occurs after several previous path strokes have functioned as desired.

Update - Now it has happened again, but for the first time when using Ofnuts' plugin 'Stroke or fill visible paths'.

After a very frustrating couple of hours with multiple paths being filled not stroked, and then having to restart Gimp every 5 minutes I was about to give up on Gimp for good.

However, instead I clicked on the Reset to default values icon at the foot of the Tool Box. Then I tested half a dozen brushes, both Gimp and my own, with multiple different dynamics (both Gimp standard and OMG custom) and brush options (e.g/ spacing, size) and could not fault the results. The fill instead of stroke has not recurred (fingers crossed), so I am presuming the problem is fixed.
