Hi all

I am new to Gimp and learning the tools, etc.
At the moment I am working my way through gradients and have hit the following problem. I get two distinct color blocks as opposed to the flow of one color into the other. See images.

Help please! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Well, you have got a 'custom' gradient and you can get there in various ways, looks like you have ended up with an all black version.

Go to the tool options, click in the gradient icon to get the drop down menu and change to FG to BG (RGB) or even FG to Transparent.

The real question is why does this happen. Sometime in the dim-and-distant past (maybe yesterday) you altered a default gradient and it becomes a custom gradient. By default Gimp remembers the last used settings even if the user forgets.

A quick animation of that: https://i.imgur.com/qH2zPu4.mp4

BTW. Are you really using Gimp 2.8 ?

Many thanks for the feedback. I'm using 10.2 which I downloaded about three weeks ago and when I checked the About it showed 10.2. Which is what I entered when I created the post. Odd. Sounds to me like I changed something while trying all the options, but your suggestions appeared to have resolved the problem

I am guessing OP is reading the Gimp splash screen right-to-left.

edit: I does not look like the Gimp version 2.8 set when registering can be changed in User Control Panel.
