Fuzzy border

I have played with GIMP off and on for years doing some very basic stuff. This is my first attempt at trying something way beyond my comfort zone. I thought it would be fairly straightforward.. i just wanted to take a .gif (with 383 frames) and remove the hard edges of the image. So i researched the way to do this, but most of the examples i found just showed how to apply to a single layer image. The closest i have found seems to be part way there but I cant get it to work.
1. Select all.
2. Change Image Mode to RGB (from indexed)
3. Select from Decor: Fuzzy Border, which is a script-fu i believe
4. Select size of border/color, am not flattening image.

I want the fuzzy border to be transparent so I can merge it into dark background
I then export

I know I must be missing something

Feeling a little frustrated and stupid right now.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

D

Since you are using a Mac, probably best off with a (old) script-fu utility multiple-layer-actions.scm Attached, put it in your user scripts folder.

You look like you are half way there already but for all users and from square one.

1. Filters -> Animation -> Unoptimise (might not be needed)
2. Image -> Mode -> RGB
3. Layer -> Multiple-Layer-Actions and apply to all layers Add Alpha
4. Make a rectangular selection for the border.
5. Selection -> Distort ( used default values but please experiment)
6. Selection -> Invert
7. Layer -> Multiple-Layer-Actions and apply Clear Selection
8. Selection -> None

I can just get that into a 1 minute animation. https://i.imgur.com/E59PyaD.mp4
