Filters>Map>Make Seemless

I just tried to make a pattern seemless and I got distortion or ghost pattern overlay. I've had this happen before and just blew it off but now I'm curious how to get this done.

I went to Filters>Map>Make Seemless (a script that usually works on most patterns) and this is what I got....

That's the problem making seamless texture Drac. I've learned many tricks over the years and in fact, seamless textures is sort of a side hobby to my retouching hobby. Anyway, a cool feature of Resynthesizer is it's ability to make seamless textures on the edges. What you do is select all, shrink 5 to 10 px (or more if you have a large image) then invert select. Now run Resynthesizer making both vertical and horizontal seamless option enabled. You may have to do some cleaning afterwards. First do and x/2, y/2 offset and then clean away (I did for your sample; not much needed). :)

I had written a somewhat better make seamless script that uses some high pass filtering and edge blending (attached):

but (ninja'd by lylejk) Resynthisizer is often a better option.

that the best suggestions to make a patterns seamless but still very similar to the original

Caring less of similarity you may solve mirroring vertically & horizontally since any image mirrored in both direction become seamless

Thanks anyway Rob.

Lyle, where can I get my hands on Resynthawhosywhatsit? Knowing your MO, I have to assume it's a separate filter.

PC. Thanks for the idea about using mirroring. I didn't think about using it for this application because I'm looking to fill a larger area and make it look continuous like a large skin rather than a repeating pattern. Gave me a couple of ideas for other things though.

well is also the only way using bitmap and not vector to enlarge a pattern without loosing quality

but you may also crop before mirroring i post here a example (based on same orbs posted by DD)

see this was more a tile that a pattern even if was seamless

but cropping away the border and mirroring also along the diagonal (thank to David that liked this idea of a 3x3 mirror array with the4 original centered, and added the option to the GMIC mirror filter)...voila this look more as pattern

Photocomix, do you have any tutorial or reference from where to learn to do these cool symmetric shapes?

Thanks in advance.
