GIMP Version: 2.6.11
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: windows 7 (64-bit)
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I am having problems with my scripts. They all show in my User\Molly\script files but they don't show up when I want to use them.
For example, the ones I use the most sg-combine background, logo-workshop and many more.
Question: How do I fix this? OR would it do any good if I installed Gimp over again without uninstalling it?
HELP- please

"Users\Molly\script files" isn't the right place to put your scripts unless you have used Edit/Preference/Folders/Scripts to explicitly tell Gimp to look there for scripts. The default directory for scripts is 'Users\Molly\.gimp-2.6\scripts' (or 'Users\Molly\.gimp-2.7\scripts' if you are on 2.7).

Sorry ofnuts. I should have typed out the whole path. This is where they are: C:\Users\Molly\.gimp-2.6\scripts

The same problem is happening in Gimp 2.7.4
C:\Users\Molly\.gimp-2.7\plug-ins\share\gimp\2.0\scripts

Are they SCM or PY? (.py gor into "plugins", not "scripts"). Otherwise what folders are listed in Edit/preferences/folders/scripts (or Edit/preferences/folders/plugins, for .PY)? If you start Gimp using gimp-console do you see anything that looks like an error?

They are all scm in my filters folder. The PY ones are in the plug-in. No errors appeared in startup.

But as Ofnuts is asking, where are your script folder(s) pointing to?

Yes, that's what we were asking, and it looks fine.

So, reading between the lines, your scripts have been working in the past, but don't work now? If so then the obvious question is what have you changed on your computer?

The only thing I can think of is I installed the Partha Gimp 2.7.4 in my user\Molly folder. I am pretty sure 2.6.11 worked up until then. I think it is no longer than a week now since I missed these scripts.

Before you start reading this do yourself one favor!
And that is -> REBOOT!

PC tech's most commonly used like is .. "have your rebooted the computer!?" When in doubt reboot! If it's still has the same behavior then continue reading!

I guess the best way is to see what the program is doing while it's loading!
:geeking
You'll need to open a dos prompt:
XP: Start -> Run and then type CMD a black DOS windows will appear
Vista: Start -> In the 'Start Search' section type CMD and it should appear at the top.

Once you have that open you'll need to navigate to your Gimp-2.0 folder. And if you have installed it in the default location just this: cd \program files (x86)\gimp-2.0\bin and hit enter and that will take you to the folder where the gimp executable is
Image
**NOTE: I have a Vista 64-bit so my 32-bit programs fall into 'program files (x86)' if you have a 32-bit operating system it will be just 'program files.'

Next type this line in: gimp-2.6 --console-messages --verbose and then hit enter.
Image
**NOTE: I made and error in my typing of what is in the DOS window! This line is correct -> gimp-2.6 --console-messages --verbose

Another DOS box will appear and in it you will see everything that happens when GIMP starts!
This is what it looks like when I start Gimp up on my PC:

Look for things that say Error that may or may not be your problem! In mine I have a few warnings and a couple of scripts that have problems, I might just have to track those down!

I hope you find your problem! ;)

Molly have you checked inside those folders to see if those scripts are still in it?
Gimp may be reading your preferences and calling nothing.

If they are there, copy or move all your added resources to another folder on your desktop and delete the molly\.gimp-2.6 folder.
Restart Gimp.Everything will go back to default.Set your dialogs the way you like them.Shut down Gimp.Replace all your resources.
Restart Gimp again.

That should do it.

Didn't work, nice try tho. I made a folder on the desktop, put on the molly scripts in it, I then deleted the one in users\molly/2.6\.gimp folder. I closed down Gimp, put the folder and scripts back, fired up gimp and still the same.
grrrr

Okay, I took all the scm files out of the folder in users/Molly/.gimp and saved them in a folder on the desktop. I cut and pasted sg-combine background and Tux logo workshop back into the user folder and now they show. I guess I will just keep putting them all back a few at a time to see how it goes. It is just too baffling for me to understand.

This error might be the culpert. I have been getting it for a long time and it might be from the 3dscript.scm. Does anyone know what this means?

That is an error telling you Gimp is trying to call two or more scripts with the same menu location.
Only 1 can exist per script or Gimp will call 1 or sometimes none.

Sounds like you fixed it yourself! :)
Good job Molly.

I can duplicate that error exactly by having two versions of the glass effect text script.

The version from here on GimpChat: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=13 which is file name glass-text.scm

and the version from FX-Foundry: http://gimpfx-foundry.sourceforge.net/b ... -text.html which has file name xtns-mosteller-glass-text.scm

It only errors because although they both try and register in the same menu location (not a problem), they use different methods to do that registering, which causes a conflict. If they both used the same method you wouldn't get an error, BUT only the second one to register would be called when you selected the menu item - potentially causing much confusion.

And not to worry, you're not the first the same problem with these scripts: (from 2 months ago): viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2596

However this error will not stop all your other scripts from loading.

Kevin

Thanks paynekj. I see what you mean. I had all my scripts out into a new folder on the desktop but I think it would take me months to go through them all to test them. Anyway, I got my two most important ones back in and working (combine background and Tux logo workshop, then I put all the rest back and now the two I had working are no where in sight when I open gimp.
I think I give up. I did get rid of the xtns-mosteller-glass-text.scm and others but there are hundreds. Maybe I will go back to reading full time, can't get into any trouble that way.
