How does one make good corners with the path tool, trying to make these little corners on the light string but the tool always seems to be in the way to see what i'm doing

You can try going to Edit > Preferences > Image Windows > Mouse Pointer > Pointer Mode and setting the mode to "Crosshair only". I think this should help.

If I understand correctly, I suggest that you try creating a second view of your image ("View->New View") and then make the path being edited visible. You will then be able to see the path change in the second window as you edit it the first (and vice verse, which can come in handy if your views are at different zoom levels).

There aere miter options available when you stroke the path as a simple line. Otherwise, if you tell us exactly what you want to do and what the path tool does instead, we may come up with suggestions.

I did a brief look at how to "break corners" in gimp a while back. I am really not sure if this will help you or not but I figured I'd throw it out there.

:ditto Makes path life much easier when you can see what's happening without the nodes.

saulgoode,
thanks for the tip, it's new to me.

Rod,
DeskPins is brilliant. Makes you wonder why something so useful isn't already built into the OS.

I like having my main window maxed while i have the new view pinned.
Just more comfortable for me i guess. :)

Yes Deskpins is a gem of a program. Small yet very powerful.
