GIMP Version: 2.8
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7 pro
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
mathmap

Does mathmap work with 2.8? I finally got 2.8 to work right except mathmap doesn't show up anywhere I made sure I installed it to the 2.8 folder. I checked the mathmap site and there are no updates for it. Mathmap is extremely useful to me and I really don't like the idea of not having it.

Not sure what GIMP version (32-bit or 64-bit) you have GMS, but we recently had a long thread on this subject. Short answer; yes. Look at the thread before; lots of fantastic info there. Again, I thank Graechan for more then figuring out how to get it to work in 64-bit GIMP. :)

I'm using 32. I'll check the thread, thanks.

In 32 bit just place the mathmap.exe file in your plugins folder and the mathmap folder (with expressions) inside the UserNameFolder\.gimp-2.8 folder. :)

For Mathmap install in 32 bit gimp download this the dierctions below are included

Attachment:
MathMap-Zip-Install.7z [4.2 MiB]
Downloaded 116 times

To install the Mathmap filter follow these directions PRECISELY!
Or it will not work.

Right click the zip file named - MMInstall.zip included in the package.
Select extract files...
Select the YourUserDirectory/.gimp-2.8 OR YourUserDirectory/.gimp-2.6 folder.
Select okay
The plug-ins , and mathmap folder inside the MMInstall.zip folder will install exactly where they need to
go in order for Mathmap to work correctly.

DOUBLE CHECK - IF ALL WENT WELL
You should find these files in the YourUserDirectory/gimp-2.6, or gimp-2.8 folder (where ever you installed it)/plug-ins folder
mathmap.exe
libfftw3-3.dll
libgsl.dll
libgslcbles.dll
libgslcbles-0.dll
libgtksourceview-2.0.0.dll

Inside the YourUserDirectory/gimp-2.6, or gimp-2.8 folder (where ever you installed it), should be a NEW folder named mathmap.

Thats it.That is all there is to it.
You will find the new Mathmap toy under Filters > Generic > Mathmap

Where did you place the files marked to go in the bin folder.

I didn't know where to put them, so I didn't put them anywhere. Mathmap came up in GIMP without them.

Since they are 32-bit, should they go into the /32 folder?

Update: I tried three random MM filters. Everything seems to work just fine:

yes they should go in 32/bin but the files may already be there.or they maybe somewhere else, such as .gimp 2.8/plugins or lib/gimp/2/plugins, you could do a search of your install to see if they exist.
But if it ain't broke why fix.

the 32 folder is there for convenience but 32 bit plugin will work also from the normal plugin folder as the others libraries also from bin
But may be cases where is better stick to the 32bit folder, foe example when 1 64 bit and 1 32bit plugin require a 2 different version of the same dll, one for 32 and 1 for 64 bit

if placed in the same place one will overwrite the other because the same name, with obvious consequences
