Greetings!

I've been away for a while, sorry, having some issues regarding past time. *sigh*

Well .. I got this idea stuck in my head but really don't know the how-to's to make go.

I want to make this swooshy motion trail blur that gets larger as it comes around it's curve.

Here's my rough sketch:

I've done straight line motion blurs before but not going from small to large or vice versa. So this is a new one on me!

Here's the original ball which I found a open clip art.

Thanks for any help! I'm really curious about this one!

I would draw it out, than run Iwarp and mess with it till it suits you. Their might be an easier way I just think this is the fastest but I am sure someone will pop in and say something else.

What would happen if you made a path in the shape you want with your bezier tool going towards your soccer ball, fill it with a gradient of your choice, then experiment with the gaussian blur on its own layer.

You could select the ball, copy it to the clip board and use it as a brush with a lower opacity for the motion and also set the spacing to how far you want each to be from each other. The newer gimp 2.8 has a lot of brush dynamics to play around with also.

Here is an example of the fade tapering brush in 2.8

Anything copied to the clipboard is available as a brush in gimp

Some good solutions but I particularly like Pegleg's idea, I'd put the trail on a seperate layer and fade/blur though to make it look less like a time lapse. Would make a great script with a path and a scale factor as inputs.

I'd like to play with this effect, can I do tapering brush in Gimp2.6?

For this sample I made an alpha brush out of the ball and set the spacing to 14 and did a new dynamic of opacity -fade, size -fade, and angle -direction. There are so many ways you could do things with brushes in 2.8 its amazing. Getting a smear blur would be hard to do but I'm sure there is a way.

How about setting the brush spacing to zero so you don't get that stepped effect, then alpha select the resulting "smear", then either use the opacity/fade settings on the brush or add a layer mask and use a gradient to fade the effect.
