I'm wondering how to put in copyright information into the [File] menu [Preferences] dialog box. And what does Import xmp mean at the bottom of the dialog box.

"Image/Properties" has a "Comment" field that is inserted in the final image whenever the format supports it (in JPEG it becomes a "Caption"). XMP is a standard to embed metadata in images (author subject, location, whatever...). There may be an reserved/official tag for copyright. But IIRC the XMP support in 2.8 is broken.
