OS Version: XP - SP3
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level



I would like to challege someone to help me design this emblem off a 1966 GTO using gimp. I have seen the awesome work people do with the texts. Can some one help me out?

I will give it a shot. very new to gimp. Still learning.
How did you guys learn how to do these things? Did you take classes?
I am always amazed when I finish doing your tutorials and it looks good.

I'd suggest you do some very basic tutorials to grasp fundamentals of digital editing where you'll learn to think layers above layers, think blend mode, try filters, wander around in the tabs and menus, import image, import texture and so on... You don't need art lessons (or even gimp lessons) to enter this world, you will need them at some point if you're addicted and want to deepen your knowledge but for a start, no, absolutely not.

Personally, I first started to mess around with gradient filter (located in menu Filters → Light and Shadow → Gradient Flare), it pleased me because it gave some immediately visible results, and as I was new at this, it just seemed awesome to do that with few clicks on a mouse. Ah, memories... (:

Simple tasks for a start:
- recolour images
- edit luminosity/contrast
- throw filters onto text
...
