Once again I cannot find the posts or tutorials where you make a picture really sharp and with brighter colors. I think you use a desaturated layer and blur it, or just blur a duplicate, also maybe invert. I don't remember if it uses high pass, but I don't think so.

2-ton,

Try satequalizer. It's included in McGimp. Filter -> Enhance -> Saturation Equalizer

That was exactly it, Akros. But now I want to try all other suggestions, too, lol.

Another suggestion, for color boosting (while preserving most of the value), gammasat, this is a feature of XNview, I often use it to modify color ambiance of matte paintings I download to use as wallpapers, it's quick and easy, instant preview and only one ''switch'' (not a switch really but.. what's the english word for er... you know... those gauges with a button moving along the gauge?)

Partha, I never even knew of that filter. I works really well, took a minute to play with the sliders!

Now to play with more filters. THe pic is a shot of a Copenhagen canal with boats and buildings alongside the canal. Anyone have suggestions on what kinds of effects would look interesting with a very busy and detailed photo? I am thinking of trying to make a pen and ink or pencil sketch. The watercolor trial was a bit hard, too many sliders to try out, lol.

2-ton,

Sorry, without actually looking at the picture or what you are trying to do to the picture, it's hard to make suggestions. :(

There are many ways to do pen & ink / pencil sketch.

Partha
