GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Linux
OS Version: ubuntu 12.04 64bit
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
None

List any ERROR messages you received:
None

When I go to select a gradient from a script on gimp it shuts down, I tried it with one of the alpha to logo scripts (Default) and it still shut down.

So far I have tried reinstalling - no joy.
Renamed the user gimp 2.8 folder so any download script where not active and still crashed.

I'm at a loss now.

GnuTux sent in a bug report. Apparently a line of code got deleted in v2.8.4 and hopefully it will be fixed soon.

The bug is already fixed, but it will need a recompile. I do not know, how to compile gimp for linux, so
you have to wait for a new release (2.8.6?).

Yes, this is a known bug in GIMP 2.8.4 and until a new version is released, the only fix is to downgrade to GIMP 2.8.2 (or compile a new version with the fix included). The bug is not limited to any specific Operating System.
