GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

GIMP is in single window mode. The bottom of the window extends down below my screen window, below my taskbar, so I can't grab it with my mouse to pull it up and make the window smaller vertically. I have pulled the top blue bar up as far as it will go, but cannot raise it far enough to grab the bottom of the window.

How do I shrink the GIMP window vertically?

Lower the top of the window then move the window up

Try maximizing the Gimp window.

Usually dragging window by the corner re-sizes it in both V and H directions.
Double clicking on the Title bar (blue bar) Maximizes/Restores program window.
Maybe hiding the task bar (autohide) will help?

How about opening a relatively small image (or setting the zoom ratio very low) and then performing "View->Shrinkwrap"?

It will maximize but then I cannot adjust the size.

Tried this, no workee.

The GIMP window will adjust H, but not V. Did autohide with taskbar, but still cannot grab the lower edge of the window.

When I lower the window and try to grab the top edge, the mouse pointer turns into the vertical line with pointers at both ends (like it's going to work), but the window size will not budge. It's like it's "locked" or something. I even closed the program and reopened it...same problem.

Has anyone else seen this?

I just solved it accidently.

I noticed that the toolbox thing on the right was narrower than usual, so I started playing with the toolbox on the left and the layers on the right, detaching and reattaching, making them wider, etc, and somehow I triggered something that allowed the GIMP window to adjust vertically again. Im back to single window and normal again.

Thanks, everyone!

Got it again...

Here's my rule: In single window mode, if you narrow the toolbox sidebar too much, you get the "vertical lock." If you widen the toolbox sidebar, you unlock the vertical adjustment to normal again.

Maybe this should go in some FAQ or bug archive?

Is there a way to send this up to the developers?

At the bottom of Edit | Preferences there is a reset button.
Another one I've used when things went wacky,
Edit | Preferences | Windows Management | Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values
