Text won't work

GIMP Version: 2.8.4
Operating System: Mac OS
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I am doing everything right. I select the text tool while I already have my image opened up, create my text box, I put my cursor on the text box and once I write, it doesn't work, it selects the tool box instead. It is as if I have not selected the text box.

Here is a screenshot: Since g is one of the letters that works because there is no tool name that starts with g, as you can see, I wrote ggg but once I wrote F , it selected the flip tool . =/

It seems I can't show my screenshot because Im a new user =/. But still any suggestions?

attach your screenshot instead of inserting a link to it.

You need to bring the focus back to the textbox (by simply clicking inside the box).
When using the text tool you have to create a textbox first (which you did) then type.
If the focus shifts away from the textbox (e.g. you clicked on text tool option panel), the focus goes away and
pressing keyboard letters activates gimp tools instead of typing.

I don't take my focus off the text box, it does it itself, thats the issue im having.

Know problem with Mavericks, upgrade to Gimp 2.8.10.
