GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Linux
GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
MrQ-Brush_Manager.py

List any ERROR messages you received:
no error, just doesn't work anymore

O boy, I sure have a problem now.
I use the (/home/molly/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/MrQ-Brush_Manager.py), and it has worked for me perfectly for the past couple of years or so. Now all of a sudden, I can't change my brushes, it keeps going back to the ones I unchecked, now all I get are the default brushes.
I have it set up as brushes and brushes_mybrushes.

The brushes folder should be empty and when I select the brushes in mybrushes, they are supposed to go into the brushes folder.
Somehow, all my brushes I own went into the brushes folder so I copied them to a folder on my desktop and then deleted the ones from my brushes folder.
Brush Manager just quit working. I checked out my MrQ py and every thing looks fine there.
Image

Now, I tried putting all my brushes back into the brushes folder and they won't paste in.
I think I am in big trouble here.
EDIT:
This is the tute I wrote on how to install this brush manager and I went over it and I can't see why it isn't working anymore for me.

Maybe so d4rkheart, but the problem is, it has been working all along, it just quit 2 or 3 days ago for no reason that I can explain.
I didn't change anything I know of. Just one of those "Lets aggravate Molly thangs"

Okay guys, I downloaded ofnuts plug-in but haven't placed it in my plug-ins folder yet, I am still reading the instrucs and trying to decypher them. I have to remove the MRQ one first before I do anything.
Also, I have to try and get all my brushes back from the desktop. I still have my, by_brushes folder with all the categories.
EDIT:
I removed Mr.Q plug-in, placed ofnuts in plug-ins folder.
Checked brushes dialogue in gimp and brush manager is now gone.
Now I don't know what to do next.

Molly, can you leave mrq-plugin on folder plug-ins, i think that isn't incompatible with ofnut plug-in manager.

No Molly, absolutely no.
Can you leave or save-remove-put plugin mrq in other folder without problems.

For ofnuts' addoncollectionmanager you need to have two files in the plugins folder, the py version and a ini version. Once they are up and running the manger should appear under the help tab in Gimp.
This is what my ini file looks like,
Image

You will need to set up a separate folder within your Gimp 2.8 profile, my one is called extra. Within that folder you need to set up folders for brushes, scripts and so on depending on how many of the options for loading different types of tools are needed. Inside the brushes folder, and the same applies for the other folders, a separate folder for each collection of brushes, or individual brush, is required. Give these folders the name of the brush inside it.
In the ini file the location of the brushes has to be added. This is what my one says addons_stored:/home/caz/.gimp-2.8/extra/brush

Both the py and ini file have "allow executing file as a program" checked. That's under properties and then permissions.

It took me a while to get the addons manger working first time I used it, it's well worth the effort though.

As to not being able to paste. The last time I found this problem I was copying a file that needed administrator privileges, or root as I think it's called in Fedora. I couldn't paste the file until I had first opened the file to copy using "open as administrator."

If you're still stuck with the addon manager post how far you've got with it and I or someone else will run through it.

Edit : I just noticed that screenshot is not very clear, here's a better view of my ini file

Ofnuts solution is really the best system solution to manage add-ons ("the partition in one" - without the need for editing).
Unfortunately, I will prescribe separately - one set - one manager.

In case of errors in MrQ (mostly due to the addition of new files without the use of manager) - the simplest solution - remove the file active.txt (after restart GIMP - select again).
MrQ

I removed Mr-Q to my desktop for now. I replaced it with ofnuts addon. I still can't get my brushes that I removed from the Brushes folder to paste back there. They do all have permissions, I only want this for the brushes only, not for gradients or any other tool. I am completely at sea now.
I now have on the brush menu an option called brush sets as seen here.
It is empty, if this in the place of brush manager?

Where do I find the ini file

Yeah, it looks like the manger to me. This link might help, it's been a while since I set this up so I forgot that the ini file doesn't come as part of the download but it is available here http://gimp-tools.sourceforge.net/managementtools.shtml Look at the section headed Configuration File, all the info is there on how to set it up.
Good luck, this one had me well confused for a couple of days before I got it right.

@ dinasset, d4rkheart, Caz and ofnuts.
Thank you guys, it was a lot easier than I thought. I don't know about any ini file but all I did was change my folder "my_brushes to "brushes_storage".
I don't know how that fixed it but I shore have my brushes back. I had visions of working on this for 3 days.
woo hool, you lucky guys don't have to pull your hair out after all.
:jumpclap :yes :pengy :pengy :pengy

Glad you got it working Molly but all you probably needed to do was delete the active.txt file. :)
