GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 32-bit Operating System (Windows Vista)
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any ERROR messages you received:
- *GIMP Startup (Not Responding)

- **GNU Image Manipulation Program Plug-In has stopped working.

I have been using GIMP for a few years, and I have had the 2.6 version up until now.

With GIMP 2.6, I always had issues with startup.. It would always freeze and let me know that the program was not responding*, but I only had to click "wait for program to respond" and wait for a little while for it to "warm up".. Aaannnd it would eventually fix itself and start the program.

Recently, I decided that it was time to upgrade to version 2.8.10.. I went to the GIMP site and downloaded it without any problems, tried to start it up... And just like the version I had previously.. It stopped responding*, but with a few differences.. This version started loading perfectly smoothly, until it got to 'Querying New Plug-ins'.. Then it would stop responding and immediately flash the "Close Program**" window, which I would click.. Only to have it pop up again seconds later.
The only way for me to make the vicious cycle stop.. Is to restart my computer.

I would really appreciate some help!
Thanks!

I know the one on Partha's Place works great and all of his versions do. I have never had any problems with any on his site. If you decide to dump the one you are using, I would suggest you use his. OR, maybe it may be a problems with your PC, I know Gimp uses a lot of RAM so do you have enough in that department. I know, one of my old computers crashed all the time using Gimp until I upgraded.

Since you had the problem in GIMP 2.6.x, could there be something in your plug-ins folder that is causing problems? As a test, you could remove everything from the plug-ins folder to see if that is indeed the problem.

Another thing you can do is run GIMP from a command prompt to see more detailed error messages. Adding the --verbose parameter will display an additional level of detail.
