See this font, pretty cool looking. But have a look at the image below it.

I've never seen a font do this. What's up with this font?

This is a symptom of a non-working font which is replaced by "Default Sans". My KFontView also displays it correctly, while my Gimp handles it the same way as yours.

I had this same problem 15 minutes ago, no matter what I changed the font to, they all came out like Wallace's. I rebooted, then it was okay.

This is happening a lot lately, not just with fonts, but with tools.

When this happened to me I went and changed the font to another font format online and it has been working ever since. Some of the free fonts you download sometimes are missing information that would make them display properly. Go to font converter or similar website and flip it to open font or some such and see if that clears it up.

EDIT: Here's the link I used. Found it here in gimp chat back when I had this same issue.

I tried using the link and I get this error after selecting my font and then clicking convert...
"500 Internal Server Error" "nginx/1.4.1 (Ubuntu)"

I was able to convert the font to .otf, with the same results when it was an .ttf.
I guess this is a broken font. That's to bad, but I do have an image of the font.

Maybe a subtle TTF thing not supported by Pango?

Same here Wallace, I just downloaded and tried it, It works every where except Gimp. I tried converting it with EK22's converter, but I get a 404 when I try it. This is what I ended up with.

This isn't a symbol font... This is a rather plain alphabetic font. The only weird thing about it is that Gimp displays its name with a final comma "VIKING, YOUNGER Runes," while kfontview shows it with a more complete name: "VIKING, YOUNGER Runes, Regular".

So, does the from work in Gimp? This is what it does in Libreoffice, seems to not work there either.

Yes, and it also forgets the "Regular" at the end of the font (but it removes the ending comma...)

Hmm, very strange, This is a first for me. It doesn't make any sense. It looks perfect in font viewer.

The font doesn't work as it should in Gimp. If you try to use it, it types as the "Default Sans".

Yes, I have never run across that before, it looks okay when you open it with font viewer.

Maybe if the font was opened in FontStruct or some other font editing tool, this problem can be fixed. I'm not sure though.

I tried running it through a couple of on-line font converters and GIMP still wouldn't display it correctly. It makes me think there's something fundamental missing from it that GIMP requires.

Thats what I thought too until I tried opening it with gedit text editor. This is part of the message I got when I tried opening it. The rest of the pages are all red high lighted binaries.
