I find that playing with the layers (opacity & blend mode) gives some really interesting results!
The first is with 6 convolutions, doubled process width and subject width of 250.
The second is the same image with just the bottom two layers active.
Even the convolution layer by itself is pretty awesome! (the third image)

Photomaster, sometimes I like to put several layers into a layer group and
change modes and intensities. It somehow seems a bit different to me
with the layer group as compared to just being in the stack.
