Thank you again Issabella - this one is not jewelry, so I hope you like this shell from another new emap (let's say it is 'faux jewelry'). Last one for tonight ... zzzzzz

This has been an intensive couple of days learning about/creating/testing all my new gradient/pattern/texture emaps - to address results I built a quick testbed with curves, angles and straght bits and it looks OK ... :hehe

Just a great tool GnuTux (thanks for your kind words too!) and the more I learn the more I play ... just need a rest now ;)

I have just spent a couple of days creating/exploring these emap devices, around 100 different gradients, patterns and textures and was extremely surprised at some of the results (both good and bad  ). I have a couple of questions though if somebody can please impart their knowledge ...

1. Spherical or rectangular emaps .... both seem to work; which is preferable?
2. Size of the emap ... is there an optimum or minimum preference?

Whatever, I tried out a few of these new emaps in a BRL collage ...

Haven't played with this one for awhile. I didn't realized my lettering wasn't centered until after I saved it. Oh well. Click for resize:

Possible answer to question 1.
The native form for e-maps when using BRL is spherical. If you chose a gradient to use as an e-map, BRL creates a spherical e-map of that gradient.
For instance, you could also us a photo/image of some kind, instead of the traditional spherical e-map.
It all depends on what you want to use as an e-map and what might be more convenient or readily available for use.

Possible answer to question 2.
I haven't found there to be any real minimum or optimum preference for e-map size.
I've also tested this. By scaling down the same e-map. Running it in it's original size and with the scaled down version. Both results were the same, when this e-map was run on the same size text.

Here is a test that I preformed.

BRL was applied to the text, using the gradient below.
Image

The canvas is 1600x1200 and the text is quite large.
Notice the size of the e-map that has been generated by BRL.

I then ran BRL on the same text, but this canvas was 492x369 and as you can see the text is much smaller.
Take note of the size of the e-map.

Below is an image of both e-maps that BRL generated.
They are for the most part identical in size, (about 306x306), but differ in their compositions.

I'm not sure if this answers your questions, but these are the things I've noticed while using BRL.

Haha, thought I was being all creative. I didn't realize the logo I did before this one was the same technique.

I used the logo bevel reflect logo script for a contest entry...the line art was supplied, and could be done any way one wanted. I hadn't done such a complicated one before, and I did have to relearn a lot. I guess I could have done a lot more detail with adding more lines for feathers and stuff, making it more realistic, but it was fun anyway. It has received some nice compliments.

That's a pretty good looking BLR image 2-ton. I really like the colors you used.

It reminds me of the tin xmas tree ornaments from Mexico. I still have a hard time knowing what parameters to use for the beveling. I try different ones but it's still hard to figure out how much to use to get the right effect.

If you use the interactive mode, you can view the changes made on the fly. This can help give you a good idea of how the parameters work.
