I mean that is so clever to have thought to do a wooden object with the brl wood texture! I would not have even thought of that, all I thought of was text and frames.

I have been using BRL for a while now and sometimes when I run it on very large images,
it can take considerable time to render the final image.
I have tried a lot of experiments and have found that if the image if taller,
then it is wide, the BRL works much faster if the image is rotated 90 degrees.
The same goes for images that are wider then they are tall.
I don't understand why this works to have BRL render faster,
but from what I've noticed it does work faster this way.

Interesting tip, thanks!

Oh I understand now.
Thanks 2-ton, but it seemed only natural to me to create this type of e-map.
I'm also looking to try and create other e-map the mimic different natural textures.
The most recent would be a leather textured e-map, which I haven't yet perfected.

Leather would be very cool!

Yes... I was very surprised to find this out myself.
I do think it has something to do with the CPU I have and or my graphics card, but I can't really confirm this.
You should try it out,
by using a tall, but slender shape and run BRL on it.
With the image as is and then run it rotated 90 degrees and run BRL again and time the render results,
while using the identical settings.

Yes it would, but I haven't been able to get a satisfactory e-map as of yet.

Wallace,
I see you are using BRL a lot, thus a question please:
- did you install the most recent G'MIC interface (1.6.7)?
It seems that the script-fu interface to allow scrolling doesn't work any more (no possibility to scroll the BRL Logo parameters (for Alpha-to-Logo they do not go over the screen height, so no problem).
My environment is: Windows 8.1, 64bits, Gimp 2.8.14, G'MIC 1.6.7
Thanks

Wallace told me about AltDrag. Haven't looked back: https://stefansundin.github.io/altdrag/

Or: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... n-windows/

Warrior is correct and I still use ALT-Drag, but the Scroll-Interface should also function. If installed correctly. That is to say putting the script into the scripts folder.

Post subject:  Re: Bevel Reflect Logo V1.6

did you mean putting the "script-fu.exe" with the scrolling capability (GnuTux) into the plug-ins folder?
Yes, I did.
I tried both putting into my user plug-ins folder as well as putting it directly into Gimp program folder, none works (now resetted the one in the Program folder to the original now, left only the one in my user folder)

..anyhow, I installed the exe referenced in the http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... n-windows/
and it works

I have to update my statements about the scrolling function of GnuTux's script-fu.exe:
- it didn't work apparently for me because the windows shows up exactly high as the screen hight is
- so that the bottom part is under the translucent lines of windows (tools bar)
- I may let windows to hide it automatically and see all the options (and use BRL!)
- alternatively I may resize the window acting on the corners and the scrolling function becomes active! GOOD!
It was my fault, sorry Gnutux (if you ever read this post)

I started using ALtDrag, because for some reason, the scrolling feature caused problems with my GIMP. It would make it freeze up, and crash. Never did figure out why. AltDrag works great.

I have been looking for an overview on how to make different kinds of the e-maps, both globes and flats, and when to use them, but have been unsuccessful. I do not do well with our search function.

I have noticed that when I use the Alt-Drag, while also using Gimp. That the Alt function for placing down guidelines using the Measuring Tool doesn't function correctly while Alt-Drag is in operation.
You can check this, by using the Measuring Tool and attempting to place out a guideline using the Alt key.

You can experiment with this, by using the same e-map.
One being flat and another being global, with the same exact settings and see if you notice any difference.
That's what I've done and can't really say that I've come to any real conclusions about the differences using either type of e-map.

2 Ton you need only create a sphere utilizing Map to object in GIMP. Then save it as a png. When you open the filter dialog for BRL (Bevel Reflect Logo) use the drop down to select use emap and find the image of your sphere in the search folder function.
The sphere you create can be any color and make sure you create it from a square flat image ie width and height the same pixel size.

Post subject:  Re: Bevel Reflect Logo V1.6

Thanks for the explanation...that seems to be a very easy way to make the spherical emaps.
