excellent images, Pat and Tom.
Maybe this filter is like an old diesel car: slow to start going but efficient afterwards....hehehe

Thank you very much, Dinasset. I made a bunch of mistakes on this next one, trying to make the image clear, but still stained glass. Had to do a lot of layer manipulating to fix what was wrong! Hope you like it.

OK.
A weakness of this filter is that it cuts the dark values (0-16) of the original image (this is done to have freedom in drawing and later on select grid and contours by black colour).
So, a statue shows up not much contrasted. Maybe in the future I will amend it.

I made an experiment on a statue.
To get a better gray contrast a did the following:
- duplicate the BG layer
- set hardlight on the duplicated BG
- set invisible colour isophotes
This is the result

I guess this technique can be used for weak contrast gray images

Beautiful images with this filter, and many possibilities, too.

Diego i updated the gimp scripts information to include all the filters prerequisites.
The filter has the following prerequisites:
a) Gimp plug-ins
-- plug-in cartoonizer.exe
b) G'MIC - Latest version
c) Bevel Reflect Logo scm
which requires
d) ML Bevel Reflect

Thank you for adding the links to these last two (c and d) to your first post.
I also sent the Cartoonizer src files to Partha who has agreed to compile for McGimp version (his own build). Which means it probably will not work in other Mac builds. Once it's tested i will post the link to download.

Thanks Rod.
I'm working on a version 2 of the filter to allow the user selecting whether to use or not cartoonizer.exe (for non Parthas's Mac users).
In addition this version 2 will offer other choices concerning the visibility of the original image and the relevance of the embellishments.
Last not least it fixes an error in the frame size and therefore in resizing.
I'll ship it to you as soon as ready.

Dinasset: I use Windows 7, Gimp 2.8.14 and I find that the original image is altered by the filter. So just moving it up the layers does not make it look better. Is this because of the cartoonizer.exe filter? What I did with "the Thinker" image was superimpose a cutout of the original image in the layers. Then I had an image that was more clear like a regular stained glass image. I could still use bokeh and chosen layers to get the color shadings of the rest of the stained glass areas. I it possible not to have the original image altered?

you're right, Pat, there is a bug which I already corrected in version 2 (in preparation)

P.S. at the moment (I mean using rel.1) you may reduce the impact of that bug setting the nr of colours to max (16), where needed

Thank you. I really enjoy this filter, and your perseverance in improving it for all users. This "old diesel" is really shaping up to be a prime new car!!
