D/L-ed these two gimp scripts from Softpedia. Octave-sharpening and Simulate-HDR.
They won't register in my gimp 2.8.4 on Win 7.
Can somebody, please, check them on your system and maybe tell what's wrong?
David Moreno is the author, both scripts dated 2013.

Edit.Edit.Edit. Sorry for the false alarm, turned out I misplaced the scripts!
Was installing scripts for 3 different programs and :gaah messed everything up.
Now have it sorted out.

Since this thread will not disappear, i'm changing the objective now.
Please, evaluate these scripts if you can.
Thank you Caz, paynekj!

Not sure how much help this will be as I'm running Linux Mint 15 but what I needed to do to make the plugin work was change the group access to read and write, the other access to none and make the file executable. I think the main problem was that the execute box was not ticked. Unfortunately I've no idea how to change the permissions in windows.

at a first trial, my humble opinions are:
- octave, I don't like the result, this sharpening method seems to me only to add noise, at various levels, I'll ignore it
- hdr, may produce some acceptable result only reducing the clear parameter to 1-1.5 and increasing the dark parameter to 0.3-0.5
(I work on photos, just for those who are reading these notes)

I'm getting the same sort of results with the Ocatve filter. It does sharpen the image up but adds a lot of noise in the process. So as long as I don't zoom the image then it looks fine. Trading off a good aspect for a bad aspect and a bad aspect for a good aspect, glass half full kinda thing I guess.

Still playing around with the HDR filter so no real thoughts on it yet.

Good news that you've sorted your problem.

My opinions on the filters:
Octave sharpening- The sharpening is too aggressive for my tastes.

Fake HDR- Oregonian's example shows my objection quite nicely - it reduces the image contrast (makes everything grey) and as I prefer contrasty images in most cases, it's not something I would use.

Thanks for your input, everyone!

I found that octave-sharpening does interesting effect on my Blender-made images
making some features stand out, but Caz's results on real blurred photo is pretty good,
not the best possible though. Script seems to be using gaussian blur for high pass frequency
separation, while arguably the best method these days is to use selective gaussian blur.
Simulated HDR script works on a single image, ran couple of tests and wasn't impressed with
the results.

I went back and ran Octave Sharpening, setting Merge to None. You get 4 layers of sharpening levels which can be turned off or left on for variables of sharpening. It's not bad.

I've attached the xcf file with the layers intact so that the layers can be manipulated.
