Astronomy Plugin

I usually use a starfield Script-fu for star scenary Conbagui, but I'll try your plugin soon (and no; surprisingly never heard about this one).

what's the difference between the scripts folder and the plugins folder? Can we use one or the other or do we have to use both? Also, once installed, where can the plugin be located?

Doesn't seem to work for me.
I've copied the plugin files to my plugins folder and also the script files to my scripts folder.
I see Astronomy in my filters mune, but it only shows the scripts.
I can't find the plugins anywhere. So I removed everything until I can figure this out.

I have doubles of the same dll file. Could that cause the problem?
I have 2 files: libgsl.dll & libgsl-0.dll
&
2 files: libgslcblas.dll & libgslcblas-0.dll

Didn't work at first for me either. I ended up placing the plugin (and all associated dlls) in its own folder and added the folder to GIMP's plugin folder's link for it to work (similar to what I have to do for gmic, mathmap, and userfilter).

Hi my Friends. I want to share this old plugin from George Hennig, (Windows only) called Astronomy. I know a lot of you probably know about this plugin, I been having it for quite a while, but I been using it on my Space scene background. Is an excellent plugin for all you Space artist.

Very easy to use (Windows only)
To install Open (Extract) the Zip and there will be two folder Plugins and Scripts:
1. Just Copy or empty all contents in the Plugins folder to your "user/.gimp 2.8/plugins folder".
2. Copy or empty all contents in the Scripts file to your "user/.gimp 2.8/script folder"
and that is it. Enjoy.

I have compiled V0.8 of this plug-in for Linux 64bit. It was compiled in Fedora 20 but should work on most Linux_x64 distributions. If there is interest, I can compile a 32bit version as well.

Just place the plug-in binaries in your gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder and the .scm scripts in your gimp-2.8/scripts folder, then restart GIMP.

Menu location: Filters/Astronomy

Also, I have updated an old scheme script called Starry Sky to be compatible with GIMP 2.6.x & GIMP 2.8.x This script creates a starry sky background. It's not nearly as fancy as the Astronomy plug-in but it's pretty cool, nonetheless. Since it's a scheme script, it will be compatible across all operating systems, including the MAC. If there is an interest, the script can be easily enhanced with more features. You can download Starry Sky V1.2 from GIMP Scripts.

Not sure, Wallace. I don't do much Windows stuff personally, so I haven't tried the binary version conbagui posted. I'll bet Graechan will compile the 64bit Windows version, if we ask.

What exactly did you do Mackenzieh and Lyle?

You made it sound really easy Conbagui, but I can't get it to work by installing it the way you described.

As Lyle pointed out don't install plugins direct to your plugins folder instead put the folder designated plugins into your plugins folder and rename astronomy
now open your preferences and point to this new folder in Folders/plugins
put the scripts into your scripts folder they'll be OK

I think it works on 32 bit as well as windows 64 bit Sallyanne.
