Cannot install Gmic win 64

Wed Feb 13, 2019 10:56 am

I bought a new 64bit computer last week.

I have gimp and gmic installed and working on my Windows 10,32bit

I can't get gmic to install on my new win 64 gimp?

I've tried every solution mentioned on the net.
-I tried changing plugin installation directory to /gmic
to eliminate underscores.
-I made sure preferences/plugins folders was set to both the program files and the user/plugins folders
-I tried putting gmic files into user/plug-ins folder(removing gmic_gimp_qt name entirely)
-I tried copying zip archive over into plugins
-I tried installing gmic in both users and lib/plugin folders.

None of them worked, Gmic doesn't show up in filters menu?
((Well the .exe version of gmic makes gmic show up in gimp but gmic is Greyed out.))

I'm using latest Gimp 2.10.8 and Gmic 2.4.5 win64. from Gimp,Gmic main site downloads.

I have seen similar posts elsewhere, so giving gmic a try in Windows 10 / Gimp 2.10.8

With Gimp 2.10 gmic_gimp correctly installs in its own folder C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins\gmic_gimp_qt

The way Gimp 2.10 works is; If the folder and the plugin have the same name then Gimp will find the plugin. So those underscores are necessary. No need to add paths...etc..

A short video of the installation: https://youtu.be/fTlqYbY-oIA 2 minutes See if you can spot any differences with your setup.

Biggest hurdle, getting rid of all those existing gmic files you now have scattered about ;)

edit: A quick re-read of OP's post

It is greyed out if there is no image open.

Doh!

Wups I forgot you need an image open for Gmic Not to be greyed out, sorry.

I use several dozen apps off and on and sometimes mix them up, gets confusing.

And thanks by the way.

Since GMIC has updated to 3.3.2, I can't get it to install on Windows 10.

I have it placed here:

Do I have it placed correctly? Do I have to open GIMP and point GIMP to the folder so it can read it? Since GIMP's update, it seems that there are bugs that need to be worked out.

The rule is: When a plugin is installed in a folder then the folder name must be the same as the plugin name.

AFAIK when you use the gimp_gmic_qt Windows installer it correctly installs the plugin.
How did you install the plugin ?

Rich2005, I placed the entire folder where you see the screenshot. The folder itself was not named gmic_gimp_ qt when I downloaded the Windows zip file from gmic.eu. The zip file listed is gmic_3.3.2_gimp_2.10_win64 on the site and it's the same when the folder is unzipped. Should I rename the folder to gmic_gimp_qt?

Use the Installer instead of the Zip. Go to you profile GIMP pluins folder and delete the old one and then use the .exe installer. The installer will install G'MIC in the right folder "plugins".
