HELP! I Cant get Spiderpaint to work

Mon Jan 24, 2022 1:33 pm

I now have GIMP 2.8 and GIMP 2.10 and I cant's get spider paint to work no matter what. I have tried both versions. In GIMP 2.8 , I have GMIC 1.79 installed. Do I need a higher version or something else. If so can someone please provide me with the proper files to make this plug in work. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi gimpmannew,
I ran the plug-in and it gave error in layer mode.
Anyway, the most important thing, it is que you have to add alpha channel to your image to do it works.
Try to run it with alpha channel.

how do I do that? I selected channels then highlighted alpha and all I got was a bunch of errors. Then when I tried to use the new version it says I am missing qt something. it keeps telling me I need GMIC 1.79. I think I have that installed. Is there a 32 and 64 bit? is there a place to check or a place that has old GMIC? I can't find any. This is frustrating. I should have 1.79 installed but what is QT (or something like that? I just get all kinds of errors. Shame its a good plug in. Is the creator still around. Does anyone have or can attach the proper files to make this work for me? Thank you again.

Yes, you have to install the right program. Select the one that is alright for your system.
I'm sure someone will be able to help you more and better.
Look at the link to download it.

Oh Dear....
Assuming you are using Windows and Gimp 2.10

Get the latest gmic_gimp_qt plugin from http://www.gmic.eu which is
https://www.fosshub.com/GMIC.html?dwl=g ... _win64.exe
This is an installer, run it to install the plugin.

Get the 'fixed' plugin from viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18138#p248848
Unzip BA_SpiderPaint-updated.zip and put BA_SpiderPaint.py in your Gimp user plugins folder
C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins

In use:
Open Image
Add an Alpha channel (if it needs one) Layer -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel
The plugin requires at least one transparent pixel, so select a tiny area with the rectangle select
Edit -> Cut then Select -> None.
Now you can start the plugin Filters -> Artistic -> Brian -> BA BA_SpiderPaint
Set your parameters, it is a very slow plugin.
