I have just discovered an over-sight in version 0.08 that will cause the plug-in to crash if you use the taper option on the brush tab of the dialog. if you want to use taper strokes, Version 0.09 puts that right. Apologies!

This version of the tabbed plug-in allows the user to create a preview character layer in a new image before rendering a full set of character paths.

Menu path:

Filters>>Custom Font Tools>>Custom Font Paths To Layers v0.08 Tabbed...

The new options on tab 3 of the dialog are highlighted here:

The basic idea for using the filter is to be able to apply multiple layers with a brush, or different brushes, in order to build up more complex effects.

In the past I would have just used a single character file to work on and (hopefully) remember the values used for each additional layer before applying them to the complete character set.

My typical workflow would look like this:

Set the colours/brush
Open a set of character paths in Gimp
Open the dialog and set the filter values
Set the ‘Preview single character’ option to ‘Yes’ and click ‘OK’
Appraise the effect of the values and dismiss the newly created preview image.
If unhappy with the effect, adjust the values and try again
If happy set the ‘Preview single character’ option to ‘No’
Click on ‘OK’ and add the effect to all the characters in the file.

The image below (using some old brushes) shows the results for each step when adding the preview results to the first character:

If you want to play, I have posted a set of resources over on GimpLearn that contain the relevant files and brushes:

Hi Skinnyhouse.

Well thought out and made with one layer preview as a new image. :clap

Sorry, but still off topic. :geek
Though I had a different hope - that you would apply the selection option ("Apply filter to custom font file (Yes) - Apply filter to active layer (No)") to other filters (like Custom_Font_Metallic_Effects_007.py)
In version 008 there is a small problem with this (that's why I chose version 007 to add a preview ).

It would be nice if the Metallic Effect ver.008-P was 100% made by You. :bump

Thanks for compliment (This version caused me a lot of head scratching.) and the heads up M.

And an off topic reply seems ok. :hehe

The good news:
Very quick to fix - just a complete oversite - not an option that I use and just forgot to add extra parameters.

I tried hard to use Claud's excellent preview but I just couldn't get an acceptable result for multiple layers

The bad news:
Suppose I will have to release version 0.09 for the fix! Will add the extra parameters and upload to Gimpscripts.

Not sure that all custom font tools would be useful when applied in this way - perhaps you have a list.

I have a tabbed version of custom font bevel reflect - but I am not completely convinced that the emap file dialog is handling the parameters I supply correctly?
Since this takes a lot of time to render a character set, I thought the single character preview option might be useful

Of course, for many layers, preview is not possible (only for the selected active layer) and it does not make sense with slow plugins.

My suggestion is to use Your plugins outside of Custom_Font as I know You have a different opinion, but this "greatly limits" the use of your potentially very useful plugins.

Non-preview example - BRL (you've spent a lot of time on it - and hardly anyone knows that "almost" a better Python version is ready).
I know you will decide best what is right.

Thanks for that M - if only there were 36 hours in a day!

And bother I have just discovered a similar mistake in this code too that breaks the track size feature - two version 0.09's coming up!

The good news is that I have finished version 0.09 and all seems well. Just need to cobble some suitable images.
