More than ten years ago Ulead released a plug-in called Particles, for its PhotoImpact package.
Now Ulead is no more on the market (Corel has "absorbed" it), the plug-in is still working under Corel PaintShop.
It is an .8bf plug-in but it seems not to be working under Gimp.
It generates nice overlaying effects on an image, I like one in particular: Bubbles.
Here is an example:

I'm wondering wheter:
A - there is a similar plug-in for Gimp / Gmic, in which case if someone of you knows about it, pls mention it; otherwise...
B - there is some good coder (one among the many excellent around Gimpchat) who takes the challenge to build one....
The filter has many options about the density, the size, the reflection of the particle etc.

Dinasset - Thanks for sharing!
Ulead Particle.Plugin 1.0 (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Ulead-Particle-Plugin-Download-109765.html) and Gimp 2.8.10 (Vista 32 bit) for me - still works.
(but I had to move all *.dll from C:\Program Files\Ulead Particle Plugin to C:\Windows\system32).

WONDERFUL!!!
MareroQ, thank you very much, I followed your suggestion (moving the .dll) and the plug-in now works also in my Win 7 32bits.
Thanks, thanks, thanks...

I couldn't get it to install in Win7 64-bit. Tried to copy the dlls (installed fine in my XP VM) per this thread but get could not run particles.dll. Guess it's a no-go for 64-bit OS. Fortunately, I have an XP VM; don't have GIMP installed in my XP VM though; only Irfanview so used it to run the plugin. :)

I got it to work on 64bit. I had to run the installer in XP compatibility first though, then copy the DLLs to system32. EDIT: copy them to: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.8\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

Pirate, you have to have PSPI installed first. It's a plugin that let's Gimp use Photoshop filters. http://tml.pp.fi/gimp/pspi.html

Oops, my bad. I had you copy them to the wrong place. Place them here: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.8\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

It's impossible to download the plug-in from the above site http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/U ... 09765.html

put inside an envelope (it is an .exe file)
compressed
attached

you have to unzip the envelope
extract the .exe
run it

David Wood, I installed the plugin in my folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Master\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins). I openned Gimp. When I call the plugin, I have an error message: Insufficient memory.

Sadly I don't know why it would give you that.
