Post subject:  new filter "WireframeMapSE" (w/o use of G'MIC)

This filter has been created without the use of G'MIC functions, so that it can be used also by people like Dalia and any other user having a system where G'MIC is not running properly (Mac?).
Warning: it is not a special edition of mine filters either referring to Lyle's tut or Garagecoder's filters, because all of those strongly rely on G'MIC.This has a new sequence of steps created by me with the use of Gimp standard filters.

Flow implemented to get the final result:

1. Create a new image (size id a choice of the user)
2. Create a BG from the input layer
3. Save it on a buffer
4. Simplify the colours by using a conversion of the image to indexed (16 colours) then back to RGBA
5. Apply a strong Unsharp Mask
6. Add a layer
7. Create a Grid on this new layer (draw horizontal and vertical lines, size is a user choice)
8. Map displace the grid according to the BG layer
9. Add a layer
10.Apply Gimp Edges to the last created drawable
11.Remove black pixels from the Edges layer
12.Analyze type of final outcome requested by the user:
a) if Transparent: set current BG not visible
b) if Black: create an underlying BG black layer
c) if B&W image: desaturate current BG visible as well as the Edges layer
d) if Original: create an underlying BG from the saved buffer

Outcomes can be considered not as nice as those from my mentioned previous filters, anyhow it offers a "wireframed output" possibility to everybody (I hope).
Below you will see examples of the outcomes.

Once installed you find it under menu="<Image>/Diego/Wiremap"

dinasset, first I want to again say how much it is appreciated what you do - it doesn't go unnoticed. I downloaded the
"WireframeMapSE" w/o G'mic and it did not show up at all in the menu.

However, I went into my plugins folder and found so many others that I had downloaded and for a bit played with taking them out of the folder one-by-one and then placing only one back. The results and for your information in case it helps...

1. DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMap_SE.py (does not show up).
2. jaz_DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMap_Lyle 1.38.58 PM.py (does not show up)

DIEGO_WireframeMap_Lyle.py Shows up as “Diego Test” it works Example

DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMap_Lyle.py Shows up under “Diego” as Wiremap Example but gives an entirely different result.

If I put both working plugins in the folder, only the one under "Diego Test" shows up.

my suggestion now is:
- remove again all plug-in wireframe you have in your plug-in folder
- DELETE the pluginrc file you have in your gimp user directory
- restart Gimp (obviously no one wireframe plug-in should show up)
- close Gimp
- reintroduce in your plug-ins folder ONLY the last one (this one: WireframeMapSE)
- restart Gimp
crossing the fingers....

dinasset, I did as instructed above - it doesn't show up anywhere. I also did a "Help" and typed it in with no success.

no other suggestions at the moment
I can't see what could be wrong with this code
Tomorrow -fresh mind- I will carefully re-read each statement...

You've done more than enough - don't go through that again. I'll admire and work with what I have :tyspin

Post subject:  Re: new filter "WireframeMapSE" (w/o use of G'MIC)

Dalia,
I did go thru the code but didn't find any relevant modification to apply (did just some "peanuts" mod).
Thus I ask you -if you like so- to make a last test for me to understand whether the problem lies in the definition or in the code.
Please do as follows:
1-remove previous version
2-unzip/install DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMapSE1.7z (see first post)
this version does nothing (only sends 2 messages), but has the whole set of filter definitions/registrations.
If once installed it doesn't appear on the menu, I have to do a further investigation on those and you may conclude this test.
If viceversa once installed it appears on the menu and you can run it (as said, you only get two messages in the error console), this means that the definitions/registration statements are accepted in your system.
You may then procede with the next step
3-remove the one installed at point 2
4-unzip/install DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMapSE2.7z (see first post)
If it doesn't appear on the menu, I have to further investigate on the code to understand if possible which statements of the code are not well accepted in your system, and you may conclude this test.
If viceversa it does appear (magics!) just play with it, because it's the full version (but I'm not so optimistic....).
Thanks

dinasset! You're the master - look it worked! I didn't play around with the terminal but I did do the BatCHmod and your plugin showed up.

Result without any changes to any of the layers

Image

Result by duplicating the original image, placing on top and changing "Mode" to Grain Merge

Image

I do have a question  - do you still have the original "DIEGO_WIREMAP_WireframeMap_Lyle.py"? This one worked and gave an entirely different effect.

I'm not a Mac user, unfortunately.
Maybe you can PM to Dalia and check with her.
I did what I could from my side (content of the filters), about the possibility to run python filters in Mac they told me they must be set (it's a flag) "executable"
