Post subject:  Beautify filters for Mac

I have just downloaded the latest Gimp version 2.8.22 for Mac OS from the main gimp org downloads site but I can't find the Beautify filters. Some of them look great and I'd like to add them to my installation.

Is it an installation option that I didn't select? Or how can I download and install them separately? Have searched and searched the forums with no luck...

Any help much appreciated.

Maybe you can try to download Partha's McGimp?
I'm not sure he did include Beautify, but it's possible (you may PM to him if you do not find it)

Thanks for the suggestions, but no luck. Tried downloading McGimp 2.8.14 64-bit and also McGimp 2.9.6 Standard Edition but neither had the Beautify filters.

Anyone out there know?
Cheers.

I don't even know what "Beautify Filters" are, much less how to install them on a mac....

There was a McGimp Build,
that had the Beautify plugin by default,
but that was a few years,
or versions ago.
As it stands...
there is no official McGimp Beautify plugin available.

What Wallace says is exactly right. I had beautify in an older mac version of gimp, but not in the current mcgimp. It was a really cool filter and would be a really nice addition.

OK so it seems it's not currently provided by GIMP nor McGimp. So the question is: is it something I can download and plugin to my existing Gimp?

I don't have the skills / time to download source code and recompile it to create my own version of Gimp, but if it's a case of downloading some files and placing them in an appropriate directory then that's fine.

BTW I was searching for a site that had examples of how all the filters changed an image. Hit upon this page "A gallery of 130+ Gimp filters/effects examples" where I saw the effects of Beautify.

It seems to me that most, if not all those effects can be done using Gmic or other available filters.

True, you can achieve same results other way, but not as fast I think.
I don't even use the color filters or skin whitening features it offers, but the borders.
There are tons of b/w borders on net, you can extract them straight to their own folders inside .gimp/rip-borders and texture-borders folders.
Or make your own custom borders, save them and use easily again.
White turns automatically to alpha, then you choose color that replaces black and play with opacity if want.
This is very useful for quick decorating, enhancement or adding borders.

Thank you both. Is there a place you recommend for theses additional filters?

Ones that I can download and extract to a folder myself rather than recompiling the program.

Thanks.

Whether you find beautify for Mac or not, G'mic is something you should install in the first place, it's essential.
Just make sure you don't sit playing with it whole day, can be really addictive :hehe
Cool ani racer-x, yeah lighting does not work so well with gif

Yes that one seems to have it.
I packed the plugins and the border folders but the zip is 43MB, it's 115MB unzipped.

OP, if you have newer Gimp and want to try if it works
Download the Lisanet Gimp 2.8.14
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimpon ... g/download

Extract the zip, browse to:
Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins
Copy the following files to you .gimp/plugins

- beautify
- border
- simple-border
- skin-whitening

Then download the Windows version
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4811

Extract and copy following folders to your .gimp/

- rip-border
- texture-border

That should do it.
Hope it works, let us know how it goes.

edit) You might need to set file permission of all 4 plugins to execute.
