This script follows Esper's Smokescreen tutorial Here ; Rel 0.01 - Initial Release ; Rel 0.02 - Added transparency fill to smoke layer so it's less like to fail using a selection ; Rel 0.03 - Added a 'Breeze distortion' setting and a transparent background option ; Rel O.04 - added 'Background Type' options to script and included some bugfixes to make the script more intuitive      Alpha menu location Script-Fu/Alpha-to-Logo Logo menu location Script-Fu/Logos Release 4↓ see Rel4 notes Attachment:

gaechan: you're so productive it's almost scary  ! now i can mass produce smoke paisleys, yay! i wonder, though - would it be possible to have the option of using the g'mic water deformation instead of the ripple? i liked the effect with the water filter so much.

Looks cool Graechan but there appears to be an issue if you have info to be processed at the top of an image. I ran by Dad through Isophotes, then PC Smoothing (both G'MIC presets), then ran that result using your cool Script-fu and got this result.

Thanks a lot Graechan! I hoped this could happen. But, because I'm a stupid gimper, I could try and appreciate Script-Fu/Logos but not Script-Fu/Alpha-to-logo: tried with a flatten background with some text in it, tried w/o merging the text down so to have a text layer on top of the black background, tried having drawn a figure directly on the black background: in any of those cases I got only a black screen, but -as I told before- I'm a stupid gimper: could you tell me which image (and layers if more than just a flatten image) should I prepare before calling Alpha-to-logo? |

dinasset: it's best to start with a transparent background and draw/write something on it, then run the script and you will always get a black background, the script is made like that. if you have a flattened image, you will have to make a selection first, then run the script. you can put a transparent layer on top of the flattened image and draw/write/paste something on it, then run the script. also, make sure to check "keep the layers" - sometimes the black background layer will get in the way and make the whole image look black, so if you keep all the layers you will be able to move it to a better place or turn it off completely. |

I tried now some of your suggestions: 1 - start with transparent layer and drawing on it: IT WORKS! 2 - start with transparent layer and putting some text leaving text layer on top: DOES NOT WORK! result is black 2b-same as above but merging the text onto the transp.layer: DOES NOT WORK! result is black 3 - opening an image, adding a transparent layer and drawing on it: DOES NOT WORK! result is my image rippled What's wrong? sigh! |

dinasset: well, hopefully graechan will be here soon and help you, but in the meantime: did you keep all the layers? make sure you do, and move the black layer if you have to. also: if you start with a transparent layer, then add a text layer you have to make sure the text layer is the active layer, not the transparent layer. running the script with the transparent layer active will of course just give a black image. and did you try making a selection of the text in the text layer after you merged it down to the transparent layer? it should work anyway, but i've already noticed this script sometimes does unexpected things. when i work with two layers i sometimes get the background rippled too, but not always. i don't know why this happens, but if you want to make sure nothing happens to the background layer you could paste the top layer into a new image, run the script on it and then paste it back as a layer in the old image. hope that helps a bit! |

thanks AnMal; here my replies: 1- yes I always selected "keep..." 2- yes active layer was text layer 3 - applying a selection around the text on the text layer I got a partial job done! id est: I got just the square of the selection smoked and not the text inside (?!?), which disappeared... I'll leave for a while...thanks again |

dinasset 1/with the Alpha-to-Logo script best resulsts are achieved from an image with a transparent background↓   or any selection

Hi Graechan, assuming I like to put some "smoking" text inside a picture, I'm able to do it using your "logo" version: 1 - opening my image 2 - creating a logo image with the text I like to have 3 - checking appropriate proportions (doing maybe a resizing) 4 - copying the logo image as a new layer on top of my image 5 - moving it around as appropriate 6 - selecting the black and removing it from the logo layer 7 - merging down... done I was wondering whether a similar result could be achieved with the alpha-to-logo version, writing text on top of the image (position and size immediately appropriate) and get the text "smoking" I tried but unsuccessfully ... Obviously I can survive with previous solution (logo version) Thanks... |

it is now possible to put Smoke on a new layer using the Alpha version of the script, see Rel3 on the initial post  |

sigh! I must be very stupid, still not able to put the text on a new layer; tried with a transparent, with a duplicated, ...unsuccessful! are you so kind to list to me the steps I have to do? many many thanks. The steps I tried were: 1 - open an image 2 - duplicate the layer or create a new transparent layer (tried both) 3 - writing some text 4 - merging the text down or not (tried both) 5 - calling the alpha-to-logo version of your plug-in Which are the correct steps you did with your nice example image? thanks... |

What I did was make two logos using the same font. Making sure the smokin one had a transparent background. I did the smokin one last so added the other as a layer after I already saved it and sent it to the bottom. Merged the layers and whalah there it was. Probably could have done it quicker but it didn't take me too long. |

Well, by using the logo and overlaying the resulting text with transparent BG on top of the image, OK, but it was more or less possible also before (see my old post before), just the option "transparent layer" helped. I thought the new version could directly use alpha to logo, as for instance with the glass text effect. Maybe, I misinterpreted the wording: "it is now possible to put Smoke on a new layer using the Alpha version of the script" (uhmm, it says explicitely alpha version...) |

Dinasset it's simple 1/ open your image 2/ add your text (or image) on top 3/ layer-to-image-size text-layer or top-layer 4/ run Smokin Alpha, on the text or top layer, with the transparent background option selected 5/ Done |
