Logo Toolbox V2.3

Download From gimpscripts.com

View the tutorial here

This script uses various fill types, beveling methods, stroking techniques and effect layers to facilitate fast & easy logo creation. Fill your logo with Colors, Patterns, Gradients and Glass. The script was been redesigned to be intuitive and easy to use. Supports Text Logo Creation and Alpha to Logo Selection. Version 2.1 has a redesigned UI and support for several 3D extrusion options.

Due to the number of input items on the Create Logo dialog, installation of the Script-Fu Scrolling Interface Modification is recommended for those with lower resolution displays..

Please post your questions, comments and Logo Toolbox creations to this thread. I hope you find this script useful and of assistance with your workflow.

Logo scripts in GIMP normally show up under File/Create/Logos and under Filters/Alpha to Logo. I basically followed the same approach with this script, with the exception of adding gimpscripts.com, purely for shameless promotional purposes. :hehe

File/Create/Logos (gimpchat.com)/Logo Toolbox..
Filters/Alpha to Logo/Logo Toolbox..

You can easily change these locations and I'd be happy to walk you through changing the menu location to wherever you'd prefer.

Glad y'all find the script useful. :bigthup

One good way to leverage this script is to make use of the active (currently selected) pattern fills, with a little bump of the same pattern to give depth. The resource forum contains a great thread here, where you can grab some nice patterns. The same applies to gradients.

This is such fun, a new box full of toys. So many variations you'd never run out of things to do with it. Thanks, GnuTux!

@ O - The wooden O is way cool.

@ Graechan - That looks like frozen Wilber. You just need a few icicles hanging down. :hehe

I'm considering adding..

Fills
Active Brush
Gradient Glass

Effect Layer
Extrude
Frame
Edge shadow
Drop shadow

I'd appreciate suggestions of any other ideas on how to enhance the script. :hi5

I'd love to see gradients included in the script, but I do not know whether fedora is still having problems, you could also include active-gradient in the options as well

Graechan,

The Script-Fu Gradient Select bug is a GIMP bug and not related to Fedora or Linux. This script includes active gradient support, as a fill option in the "Fill Method" dropdown.

gnu tux: :ditto really nice looking. and bell bottom laser is one of my favourite fonts. but does the script have a background option that i just haven't found, or do you add backgrounds after running it? if there is no background option i put it on the wishlist!

If you have a background already it's way easier to use Alpha to Logo | Logo Toolbox, with the text layer selected. If you already used Create Logos you can add any background.

Post subject:  Re: Logo Toolbox V1.0

Thanks, y'all. I got the gold text effect by stacking a couple of layers that I filled with a gold pattern, then beveled & stroked in specific ways. I plan on doing a basic tutorial on the operation of the script and how to best leverage it to the user's advantage.

@AnMal - The reason I didn't initially include a background or a drop shadow is that it takes up space on the input menu, which in the future, might be better used for other things. I don't want to end up with so many options on the input menu that I can't see the OK button. I have this problem with one of GIMP's default logo scripts: Glossy. It really depends on the screen resolution and font sizes one chooses, but it's easy to run out of space on the menu, if you're not running at a high enough resolution.

I'm considering a 2nd drop down box, depth and pattern select, where additional layers can be quickly added, such as a background layer and shadows, among other things. By using dropdowns in this manner, I'm able to pack a lot of features into the script without taking up a lot of real estate on the screen.

@Odin - Yes, you need something to start with and if you're staring with fonts or dings, "Create Logo" is a good way to go. Otherwise, the script will auto-select whatever is on the selected layer when you use Alpha to Logo, unless you manually make specific selections on that layer. One thing to note is that the selected layer itself is never changed and the script's output is always in new layers stacked above the original, so in that sense, all operations are non-destructive to any previously created layers.
