WOW !
I Love that swan Issabella.
dinasset, Thank you !
There are so many ways you can configure the filter, that must have taken a lot of work.
This is just a picture of my sink bowl. I do dabble in stained glass and want to make a stained glass window something like this one day.

Serious Tom, if like, you can replace the pattern for this one (without red line) :)

I don't give up - I spent most of the afternoon looking for the gmic compatible with mac that was version 1.6.9; there were none. Finally downloaded 1.6.5 and ran the plugin without changing any of the values. I don't quite get the same outcomes as have been posted but found that I could apply my own bevels, shadows etc., to get something similar. Will definitely play with this one. Thank you dinasset and Rod! Ok, here's my first one (I think I need a bigger image  )

Dinasset: I love your filter ver. 2. I like being able to have more control over the extra effects. I did notice that the width of the image gets narrowed without adjustment of the height so that the image is scrunched together. More visable on some images than others. Please try the image I included as I am having intermittent computer problems and I want to make sure it is just not my computer. Thank You.

After filter run without any embellishments. It seems this happens when the border is added.

Thanks, Issabella. I found the plugin earlier and I deleted my post.

other 2 possible outcomes:
a) setting IsophotesLayer to HardLight

Peaches%201.png_ISO-SET-HARDLIGHT.png

b) same as above with opacity 65 and without embellishment

Peaches%201.png_ISO-65-HARDLIGHT-NOembell.png

to my taste: I preferred to use the image without the borders

(note: the colours in the original are very weak, that's the reason why I changed the layer mode of Isophotes)

I'm a fan of stained glass, I tried repeatedly to create a filter to simulate it. It is still not perfect, but I guess that in this case perfection is impossible, because the artist makes own choices when deciding how to "cut" the image in pieces to get the best result

Grandchildren are wonderful! Mine live 10 hours (driving) away from me so I don't get to see them often enough.

Thank you Dinasset for checking those images. If I understand correctly I should remove any borders from the picture before running the filter. I will do that from now on.

Re your comments about perfection with the filter. It is a mosaic filter, although you have added many fine choices. Your comment about the artist's choices holds true. They never have the lines crossing the face or through the eyes so the face or important places are not obliterated. Is that even possible to make a program to let the user decide where the lead lines are positioned for a real stained glass picture effect? Would that be more of a photo manipulation program where you import an image, then choose embellishments and place lead lines where you want. I have looked for such programs but have not found any. Maybe it is not possible.

It would be fantastic, as you pointed out.
Certainly it would require a thorough preparation by the user before calling the filter.
I will think about it.

Pat, I usually set the tile size at 10 when the original picture is less than 1000px width, in that way the wires are much thinner and the result is more integrated in the whole of it. Anyway, if you see the result a bit exaggerated (mainly on faces), repeat it changing the size and you decide. :)

Thanks, Issabella. I know the wires are thinner with the smaller images, but for some reason, I did not consider that when doing that image. (This year I am blaming all my mistakes on "Senior Moments").

I have no idea what that means or how to fix it. I am using Gimp 2.8.16 and G'mic 1.6.3.1 in Linux.
:D
