Wished I knew about this method ofnuts showed me that gets average color of selected are and this script before I tried to to do this piece back in the day.

Ofnuts suggested the use of pdb.gimp_histogram... which i had no clue how to use. |

I think just a certain percentage blur and then average that color would do it. |

I meant that Ofnuts showed me that method and now that's what's used in the script. And it does average color of selected area.. |
