Ofnuts is correct,
in that it is more practical to do it on one layer.
The one layer,
with all the characters on it is how I would do it now.
I find that putting each character on it's own layer from the start,
is less practical and I would no longer do it this way at the start.
After all the effects or whatever was needed was done and merged into one layer.
I would use the DivideTransBG.scm,
which adds the Break Apart By Alpha filter to Gimp.
To break apart the characters into separate layers.
Making sure to incorporate things like the dot over the "i" and "j".
Back where they belong and anything not connected to a character.

Hi Tin.
The ability to separate (add) commands using a semicolon (;) is a great thing
Small addition: Choose on what layers.

ps.In the next version, I would like you to add support for the layer group :yes

I had done all my fonts with the single layer, making all my changes, and then separating into layers with Break apart with alpha. Thought I would try the other way. There are advantages to both. With Break apart with alpha, you must go name each layer individually. However, I found with Font to Layers, all are nicely named but if you use BRL to visible layers, you lose the names. Tin, is there anyway to save the names?

I'll look into it right now. There should be.

UPDATE: try version 2 python script here which tries to keep layer names

I was going to make this same change in scheme version of script as well but it looks like this change was already done for scheme version (originally suggested by Grachaen).
