Thank you, O!

As you ordered! :) Blueberries!

On a side note, I've come up with some customer gimpressionist brushes and played with them a little bit

As usual, only GIMPressionist filter has been used with new brushes (last 6 images).

Thanks, K, I think I'm getting it. I used a splat brush for the second brush. Wondering if new brushes can be added to the Gimpressionist brushes.

Yes! GIMP allows you to save image in PPM (for 3D like shape) or PGM file format. I save them(new brushes) right in the gimpressionist brushes folder. The best part - you can apply new brush right away, no GIMP restart or brush refresh are needed!!! Sweeeeeeet!

OK, I have a folder named gimpressionist in my gimp-2.8 folder but no brushes folder there. I made a brushes folder and saved a brush in it. After closing and re-opening gimp, it didn't show up in gimpressionist. I ended up having to sign into the Linux terminal window as root and browse to the folder in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/gimpressionist/brushes to put it in. I made a Trick or Treat brush and saved it as a .pgm. It worked! Need to make a better brush though as I was experimenting and did it on the fly while in the terminal window.

I only wish the plugin had the options available to call from within a script, 'you can only call a preset'

@Oregonian
rename the brush folder you placed in gimpressionist "Brushes" with capital B

There you may also add folders for custom "Presets" and "Papers", again mind the capital letters

this effect was fun to play with but so far i've had no luck trying to control the outcome - everything seems to gather in lumps in the middle or around the edges. any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Using the default brushes how to you change colour? everyone I've tried always comes out greyscaled.

Hi AnMal!

Reduce Stroke density in Placement menu down to 1 or 2, also use Evenly distributed and toggle centered to see how it works.
I also reduce brush variants down to 1 or 2 in Size menu, increase and make equal min/max sizes.
In General you can change bg color.
Clicking several times on Update button acts like Randomize in GIMP Render tools.

It is almost impossible to get 100% predictable outcome as to exact placement and number of objects you'll get in your image.
Gimpressionist was not designed as a rendering tool, but adding this ability would be a great idea, like more control over brush density and distribution on canvas.

The color of a brush is defined by your canvas color. Fill it with solid color or apply gradient before using Gimpressionist. BG color can be changed in Gimpressionist>General.

PhotoComix, thank you!!! :jumpclap :clap :coolthup

That saves me so much time and it's so much easier. I don't have to go through the signing in as root in the terminal window and bringing up a file browser, etc., etc. It works!

I learned that pgm files need white on black background to work right.

k1tesseraena: thank you for hellping, i think i'm getting the hang of it now :).

some of my renderings, some with added backgrounds. i used draconians metal flower from this thread: making flowery stars with rotated paths and made a brush of it - worked perfectly. then i used some glittering triskells and of course i had to try it with paisleys and then with some more paisleys, and then i somehow ended up with about thirty piasley renderings...

:hi5 0 glad you solved !

who is using gimpressionist with the hacked , bigger preview ?

Image

will be worth to compile with enlarged preview also for linux, it is such a simple hack but does a lot of difference, the normal preview is just unusable !

Congratulations, AnMal! Yours are way better than mine! They are beautiful, especially the last one, but I like them all!

One thing that I wish GIMPressionist would allow would be multiple brushes (not just one brush) like Impressionist does. :)

yes but i could do only because no coding knowledge was required, but only to trace that dumb hard-coded value, a number somewhere hopefully close to a word as PREVIEW or preview.

And i did found and replaced that 100x100 preview with a much bigger one

Then Onkel Hatti did even better and compiled again

If you use Windows look in the script board they were compiled by Rod and Onkel Hatti even if for some rewason only at 32 bit

Anyway i use them even on my 64bit gimp and are working well
