Hi Graechan,
there must be something wrong/missing in my environment.
I send you my trial:
- step 1 : text added
- step 2 : layer to image size
- step 3 : final result after smokin with transparent background (empty text layer...)
What's wrong?

dinasset others are not having problems with this so I will look at your files now as I doubt it's a environment or user problem

Dinasset your only problem was the color of your text as this should not be a user restriction I have solved in the script, please download again

warp and breeze set to 0, transparent background selected↓

dinasset isn't the only one having problems, sorry I know you go to a lot of trouble but I can get it to go on top only when I do two separate items. One with a transparent background which I layer on top.
I just tried the way you wrote and instead of getting my text in 'smoke' the text disappeared and the smoke went to the top and bottom of the picture. Please let me know what I am doing wrong

Sallyanne please follow these instructions

Download the script again and update

1/create your text above your image
2/ text-layer layer-to-image-size
3/with text layer active run smokin using these settings set warp and breeze set to 0, transparent background selected

EUREKA! I got it!!!!
Thanks a lot Graechan, glad to have contributed with my previous tests (selecting by chance a colour which created problems) to let you transform your excellent script into a perfect one!!!
Very very nice, many thanks for having supported my efforts.

SallyAnne,
if you are still unsuccessful with your trials I do recommend to follow the indication of Graechan to set breeze=0 (this is mandatory if you - like me - like to see the text readable);
warp is not to be set to 0 in the same mandatory way, you can use some little value: in my case up to 15 still create a nicely smoked text.
Another recommendation of Graechan which has to be considered mandatory is the step "layer to image size" after having written the text.
Hope you succeed...

Finally got it. I wasn't (keeping the text layer active) Thanks for your patience.

SallyAnne,
if you - like me - are using the alpha-to-logo to put text on an image, better to change the scripts defaults to:
SF-ADJUSTMENT "Warp" '(10 0 100 1 5 0 0)
SF-ADJUSTMENT "Breeze Distortion" '(0 0 25 1 5 0 0)
SF-TOGGLE "Transparent Background" TRUE
I did so.
Would I be also a good programmer, I'd have inserted also the "layer to image size" function, to have the script operating on a text just inserted...

Just posted Rel4 with additional background choices and bugfixes ,when adding text to Image you are no longer required to resize the text layer but you still have to make sure it's selected before running script

The script can now distinguish a single-layer-image from a multiple-layer-image

Dinasset I think it meets all the prerequisites now, enjoy and thank you for the kind comments Rod,I decided to beef up the logo script with a text effect for good measure and if you run a text layer on its own you can apply any effect you like beforehand just select 'Original image' in the alpha menu
