Wallace, try a system search for duplicate DLLs using the plug-ins DLL name(s). If you find any duplicate DLLs rename the new plug-in ones by adding .old extension to disable them and test again. If that doesn't work remove the .old, at least you can eliminate DLLs as a possible problem.
*.dll.old

I'm sorry  Wallace and others, if I misguided you on the installation. When I installed the Astronomy plug-in a couple years ago I did't have anything on my .gimp 2.6, so no I have no errors. delete the dll that came with the Astronomy from the Gimp/plug-ins folder and start again. As Lyle pointed out don't install plugins direct to your plugins folder instead put the folder designated plugins into your plugins folder and rename astronomy now open your preferences and point to this new folder in Folders/plugins put the scripts into your scripts folder they'll be OK. I hope it works for you.

I've done all this 4 time now without result.
Still none of the plugins show in the Astronomy mune as available for use. Only the 6 installed scripts show as available for use. The plugins are nowhere to be found.

Here's what I did:
1. place the scripts in here: Program Files>GIMP 2>share>gimp>2.0>scripts (SCM files)
2. place the plugins in here: Users>Mackenzie>.gimp-2.8>plug-ins>plug-ins>Astronomy (all files including the dll files)
3. Start gimp and go to preferences, scroll to plugins, then add the new folder:
C:/Users/Mackenzie/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/plug-ins/Astronomy

Can you try running gimp from the command prompt? You should see an error in the console that might point you to the problem. 9 out of 10 times, Windows plug-in problems are related to .dll issues, missing, duplicate or wrong versions of the dynamic link libraries.

You know, come to think of it, it did ask me if I wanted to copy or overwrite a dll file. I told it not to because I didn't know which was the newer version. In my case the install went flawless.

I've decided to live without these plugins. ;)

I'm using 32bit and I got one set of files from this thread, supplied by conbagui, where he got the files from I have no idea.
I also got a set for the Gimp Plugin Registry.

The one I got from the Registry had lib files, the later didn't.
I couldn't get either of them working correctly. The installed plugins also don't show in Gimp's plugin browser.

I'm sure there's a issue somewhere. I'd have to install them again and run Gimp verbose to see what happens.
Not positive about weather I want to go through all this again anyway, for something that's not truly necessary.

I'm running Partha's 32bit.

That looks cool. :bigthup

I do have an old 2.6, but I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for the whole thing.

Thanks Graechan for taking the time to help out, I appreciate that. I'm putting this on the back burner for now.

Wallace i installed the file linked on first post.
Download it
Unzip it
Open the plug-ins folder
Install everything except the lib folder in the user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder (overwrite existing files)
Open the scripts folder
Install in user/.gimp-2.8/scripts folder
Restart GIMP-2.8.x

Mine worked using this method of installation.

I've used all the "suggested" ways of installing these files, but still the plugins don't show in the Astronomy menu, only the 6 scripts show each time I've tried installing them.

Would be nice if these files had an installer, not that this would make much difference in my case.

I think my best course of action now, would be to cut all these files, (including all dll files) and install them into my recycling bin, and forget about it.
:hehe

Wallace, the plug-in 3D-fun never worked in my GIMP 2.8.10, but it works fine in GIMP 2.6. Graechan never cleared up the mystery.

When I install Astronomy plugins as Lylejk suggests, I get an error when GIMP starts:

I'm sure I have Partha's build, 64-bit on Windows 7.

Thought so. Any ideas how I could add 32-bit support?
