The bug is in the source code of the official release of GIMP 2.8.4. If your version is compiled from that source code, you have the bug. It doesn't matter which OS you are using.

To avoid the bug, you can drop back to GIMP 2.8.2 or use a version of GIMP that has been compiled from an updated version of the 2.8.4 source code. I suspect you are using the later, Rod.

More than likely it is a later compiled version. It is also a Partha build and Partha is usually right on the ball when it comes to bugs. ;)

Hi,

I have tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of 2.8.4 from Partha's site but when opening GIMP many of the plugins crash so makes GIMP unusable. I will stick with the 'standard' 2.8.4 and put up with the gradient problem.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Bob

There is little I can do about the crashes in Gimp but to introduce a active gradient to the bgd choices, the bug does not effect any of my gimps but my operating system is Windows

'O' all release 4 releases are bugfixes for individuals, that are brought to my attention, there is also a fix for the amount of rust coming soon

I don't get any rust at all with v.05. :(

I've attached the xcf file so you can see the layers.

Very nice Graechan.I am impressed with the gouges in the metal look. :bigthup :)
I used my seamless rust pattern for both the pattern and background fills.
Rust severity set to max.Plus a mild bit of contrast to add depth.

A overlay of the rust pattern set to burn and masked over gouged areas really brings it out i think.

Graechan here is default and max severity for rust. The max severity seems to only get darker but not rustier.

All default settings
Image

All default except rust severity set to max (60)

Rod I can't seem to push it no more as the plugins I used seem to have a sweat spot any Adj. More or less and they won't work together at all

Hi Graechan,
thanks.
I now tried it also with a selection (the text on top is always perfect, for me) and I put here a note for myself and anybody else who wants also to play with selection on an image (I did it on my poor Angel...)
1 - select the area to rust
2 - duplicate the layer
3 - invert selection
4 - cut (only the selected part remains on the duplicated layer)
5 - invert again
6 - run the script and..
7 - ... voilà!, the selected part of the image is rusted!
nice result
