After saying that I struggled to find custom fonts that would compress enough to upload to GimpChat - a couple of recent ones have made the grade...

About how to get fonts with bigger size.
you can also divide the font into three parts.
uppercase, lowercase, numbers and other characters
Then the user can stitch the source together by opening the three parts as layers.

About dividing up the fonts...

I have done this in the past - or reduced the size of the font characters but the kerning paths add a layer of complexity - either in extracting them or adding them easily. This probably calls for another plug-in to do the boring work - so perhaps one day.
