I guess I discovered a necessary update, to reduce "halo".
Repeated the run on the last image.

For these portraits I used the look "fine".

At first i didnt like all the dots / points. We already have a pointillism filter.
Yet i really liked your portraits with 'fine' setting. They look really good.
I would likely use ;fine; to get some artistic effect but not too much

As you see, the option has effect not only on the dots of paint but also on the overall structure of the image.
