Hi all,

I am new to GIMP and I finally figured out how to install these wonderful Beautify Plugins but I cannot figure out how to increase the border size. Right now the border is pretty small on a large picture.

Appreciate any help you may give me.

Many thanks,

Melissa
Welcome Melissa.
I believe border size is determined by canvas or selection size.
1. Make sure you don't have any active selections (Select | None).
2. Either flatten the image or select the background layer before you use Beautify.

TIP: When you're sampling frames in the Beautify dialog, use the reset button.

I've been using Beautify though in my Lisanet version of GIMP...I thought I had a plug in or a script...but that doesn't seem to be the case...also...it is partially in the Partha version McGimp for mac, but not all of it. Disappointing. I think this is the reason I stopped using Parthas version in favour of the version with the full Beautify plug in...I found some things which indicated that the guy who did them was accused of racisim because of the skin whitening technique...what a croc that is...Ihave also found aload of other stuff related to Beautify but nothing that I can put in place myself without some guidance

I'm not a mac user, but I know that there are versions of McGimp that include this plugin.
I think it was back in 2.6 McGimp, but don't quote me on that.

If you look here at post #7... http://gimpforums.com/thread-beautify-s-libgimp2-0-dev
It mentions that ther is a version of McGimp that has this plugin.

Wallace, yes there are but McGIMP does not have it in its complete form. it has the SHINE LOGO and SHINE ALPHA in as beautify but not the part with all the frames and wonderful filters in there. But they are there in the Lisanet version of GIMP for mac. Both are 2.8 versions...one by Partha and the other by Simone from Lisanet for Sourceforge
.

I guess it still needs to be compiled then.
Sorry, but I don't know what else to say.

Image I got this message when I ran Alpha Shine. Alpha Shine worked except it didn't create a border.
Image I have the Beautify plugin installed and it works fine on its own. Such a pity it was abandoned.

I made this today but had to swap from Parthas version to Lisanet version to get the filters to work...that particular one does not put a frame on it but the frame I used was also part of the beautify package on the second version...not available on Parthas version...who the heck knows why it doesnt work on that

I did read something in the GIMP plug in registry where someone took him on for being racist with it...perhaps thats why he gave it away...bit silly really

I read that too. I think it had to do with the skin whitening feature.

I don't know abut McGimp, but as far as my Windows experience is concerned, Shine Alpha and Shine Logo have nothing to do with Beautify: Beautify has a lot of features but not the "Shine" (at least in Windows); by checking both the https://github.com/hejiann/beautify/wik ... utorials-1
and the
https://github.com/hejiann/beautify
we get no reference to a "shine" function.
Both shine functions are part of a Graechan filter (image-shine).
Only for info.

I found it a bit weird but they both come up under Beautify on the mac...so maybe therein lies the issue

the "confusion" may emerge from the fact that Graechan's script "shine.scm" makes use (if so requested by the user) of the beautify plug-in, and maybe that version put all the functions together, I don't know
