Inspired by the images on this website (I don't speak Spanish), I started working on a script which, in conjunction with the Calendar script, will render a calendar shaped such that it can be folded into a dodecahedron. The script is in its seminal stages, but if anyone is interested in trying it in its current form, it can be downloaded from this page. EDIT: please visit this page for info and links on the latest version I will eventually get around to fixing up the layout and adding the ability to map images onto the sides (the "facet image" option does nothing right now), but if anyone wants to experiment with this preliminary version, it is somewhat functional. The command is called "Platonic calendar" (a dodecahedron is a 12-sided platonic solid) and is found under "File->Create". The default edge-length of "450" should produce an image suitable for printing on a DIN A4 sheet of paper at 300DPI (though this may need some tweaking). Here is an example output using an edge-length of "150": Attachment: platonic-01.png [ 76.91 KiB | Viewed 9294 times ] |

That looks like it will be quite a challenge, Saul. |

Very nice saulgoode, thanks! =) |

Wow! That looks complicated, saulgoode. I've seen little plastic models of calendars like that. I need to get some legal sized paper to print it on and cut and paste. Dunno if I can buy A4 paper. Going to have to give it a try. Got the script. |

This one I used US Letter size, side 350 and a facet image. I thot the facet image would go on all of the facets. Having it on one is cool, too. Since I don't have a color printer, I could print it on colored paper, have the calendar in black and the facet image in gray. A totally cool script. |

O, I though DIN A4 was the normal letter size. Please set me straight if that is incorrect. I hadn't gotten around to implementing the facet image with that first version. I did some coding last night and I think I've got it working (it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be). The new version can be obtained by following the link on my Chiselapp webpage. Here is an example using magazine covers from Fantasy & Science Fiction for the facet image: Attachment: platonic-02.jpg [ 143.29 KiB | Viewed 9275 times ] |

saulgoode wrote: O, I though DIN A4 was the normal letter size. Please set me straight if that is incorrect You could be right about DIN A4 size, I just plain don't know. I used US letter size in GIMP templates though and, plain A4 is in the GIMP templates too.AFAIK, regular A4 is slightly narrower and slightly longer than US Letter. Your images in the calendar are cool. How did you get different images in the calendar? More experimenting. |

Oregonian wrote: AFAIK, regular A4 is slightly narrower and slightly longer than US Letter. Oh. Well, that could work out because the render graphic is slightly narrower than 8.5"x11" when scaled to fit. Oregonian wrote: Your images in the calendar are cool. How did you get different images in the calendar? More experimenting. I've just updated my wiki page. Here is what I wrote: Code: Select all The facet image can be a single layer or multiple layers. If the facet image has twelve layers then each layer will appear on a different face of the dodecahedron (bottom layer is January, top layer is December). Fewer than twelve layers will result in the layers being repeated to produce the twelve faces (e.g., four layers would be "cycled through" three times). |

I'm not having any luck at all with the facet image showing up in the calendar. I made a gold-colored Gimp Chat and duplicated it so I had 12 layers. Tried it 3 times. I made sure use facet image was checked and the correct image was in the dropdown. Restarting GIMP is next. |

Still no joy on the image. |

If you aren't getting anything (including error messages) then all I can suggest is that you make sure you have the latest version. You might try downloading the file again (maybe there is some weird caching problem with your webbrowser and you are somehow retaining the original version). |

The first one I made had the image in one of the months because I didn't know to make it 12 layers. I've deleted the one in my scripts folder, re-downloaded it and put it in the scripts folder. Going to boot my machine. |

I hope someone else gives the script a try. I'm batting zero on the facet image. |

Works like a charm for me in Ubuntu. I already printed and cut it out, scored the lines, and currently taping it together. I'll take a picture of it when done. |

Saul, FYI, A4 = 210mm x 297mm (8.27in x 11.69in) Letter = 216mm x 279mm (8.5in x 11 in) A4 is narrower by almost a quarter-inch and over one-half inch longer than Letter. |

Quote: Wow Mahvin that looks amazing I just went on Google images and tried to find a fitting image for each month to use as layers. I then renamed them for the months and put them in the order Saul says, on his wiki. December being top-most, and January being bottom-most. It looks cool sitting here on my desk, too. I need to buy some double-sided sticky tape. |

Well I finally have it working after the third download, and arduous sacrifices to the computer gods with vigorous shaking of rattles, feathers and beads over braziers filled with burning incense. |
