ImageAn excellent python script for creating paths directly onto an image.
It uses a selection to centre the new path, then adjust the settings for size and rotation
You can also elect to turn the path into a selection and fill
Tutorial link is path-shape-creator demonstration
Download link is arakne-path-shape-creator7

arakne-path-shape-creator7
Now the shape selector is a TreeView instead of the comboBox available from all the tabs and includes the spanish translation for all the shapes

Arakne-path-shape-creator6e
This version adds the “Update selection” button that lets you apply the changes in the selection of the current image.

Yep, that is the one.

There has been a flurry of updates recently, new shapes new options.

It puts a shape as a path into a selection (any shape selection). Now the parameters can be adjusted to resize/move the path outside the selection.

also, Metal Mesh 0.04.2 is working here as well.

Yes i just asked the other day if the new fill foreground version link could be added to the registry page for this plugin. Looks like Graechan found it though. Thanks!

Could someone please start making parches of these cool plugins and scripts to merge with Gimp git. If such parches are well done and presented to Gimp developers I am sure they will be gladly accepted.

I often get tempted to doubt the future of Gimp just because sometimes I cannot do something easy without a third party plugin or script. But of course I appreciate developers for leaving users a window of opportunity to work around; I just think it would help if they start perusing these plugins/scripts for possible merging.

I am sure many would love that happen.

Pareto's law: 90 of the functionality is used by 10% of the users, and 90% of the users use 10% of the functionality (for most people, Gimp is just a glorified JPEG editor). Adding all these scripts would just add bloat to the menu structure.

Look at it the other way... you are getting lazy because each time you want to do something you find a free script/plugin to do it because sharing is in Gimp's genes :)

I like it, I think I use to have an early version. My only complaint is how much Undo History, even for a simple operation.

Because of this:
      if self.thispath==None:
         self.thispath = pdb.gimp_vectors_new(self.img, self.name)
         pdb.gimp_image_add_vectors(self.img, self.thispath, 0)

He adds the path to the image before filling it, so every op to the path becomes an undoable operation. There are two solutions, make an undo group by bracketing the code between pdb.gimp_image_undo_group_start()/pdb.gimp_image_undo_group_end() (but this can still be slow because the path display is updated in real-time while it is changed), or add the path to the image only when it is complete.

I learned this the hard way :)

I know very little about Python but figured something wasn't right so I was hoping one of the coders would respond.

In many cases - now it's easier to create new shape in Gimp (a lot of possibilities of combinations of basic shapes) than in Inkscape !
Only those who have not tried this plugin - say otherwise !

sorry for my simple question:
is there a written tutorial? I mean: not a video, but a pdf or simple text...

Are all 3 .py files supposed to go into the plugins folder or just the recently updated version? I also don't see the script when I check the paths filter. When I go to Render>Paths, I get shape-grid and nothing else.

Delete the old files.
The plugin is already updated to 6, with separate "shapes" folder which You put also in .gimp/plugins.

And it´s under Filters>Path, not Render >Path. Works flawlessly.

@dinasset, You do not need a tutorial. You pick the shape from drop-down list and edit values.
Changes are visible in preview window, takes a minute to get into it.

Link to version 6
http://www.arakne.es/en/dessign/gimp-py ... creator-6/

arakne-path-shape-creator6.py
araknepathshapecreatorshapes.py
pnt2d.py
shapes (folder)

Put em all in plugins folder. You don´t need the "locales", it´s just a spanish translation.

(sorry for double-post)
