Hi

I wrote a simple script which performs -my way- a stretching on values and colours.
I'm interested -if possible- in having input images difficult to improve up to an acceptable level.
So far I took the one Akros posted for Tin's experimental script.

using default settings in my script this is the result:

First question to Gimp-chatters:
- is it an acceptable result?
Second question:
- are there other "difficult" input images to try with? (just in case you consider acceptable the result on the test image)

Thanks

I am wondering where the script is for download and testing. :)

Rod,
I'll post the script only after I will have been able to tune it (using the difficult images you gimp-chatters could kindly provide to me here)

You couldn't try on this one could you? It is a scanned photo and a couple changes have already been made to it but it needs perfecting.

By the way I did not take this photo.

- It exacerbates the chroma noise... this is quite visible on the black paint.
- Processing should be less intense on the light values: the paper is burned out, and the tiling under the grill has lost its color.

Of course the original picture is pretty bad...

#SallyAnne

I tried on you image and I post the result, but be careful on you evaluation: this script just stretches values and colours, does not sharpen a blurred image

@Ofnuts

another trial, but -as I said to SallyAnne- this script just perform stretching, so -about your first comment- it doesn't remove noise
I tried to take care of your other comments

Thanks dinasset. I was having a play with you. You asked for difficult images and thought I would give you a challenge. Does it help with white balance? The fence in the background right is supposed to be shiny grey (corrogated iron) - not white.

Sure!
Send me your "difficult" images, I was just saying that you have to expect only variations in values and colours...
I made another trial, not sure it's better (even if the white became pale grey)

Dinasset,
Remembering that this picture is not mine!
In post (#12) I pointed out to the author, and the place where I removed the image.
Untitled - Nathalie Martin - cc

The script seems to be getting great results!
I liked the contrast obtained on the first result (#1).
But I agree with ofnuts, the intensity was very strong.

In the example (#9) the script to have improved the adjustment. And the result was excellent. :bigthup :clap

But this same setting used in the script (#9), could be used in an image less problematic?

Manually got some decent results, but I was not 100% satisfied with any of them.
an example

here attached are your photos (not so bad, as you say, btw) after applying my script
tell me whether you like these "stretched" versions and/or you prefer some different nuances

anyhow, thanks a lot for the contribution to my tests/script tuning

Thanks Akros.
So far, in my personal tests, there is no serious drawback using "normal" images, I was asking to get here some "problematic" images (like the one you posted -you're right, I'd have said "posted by you" and not "your") to evaluate the best possible tuning
Maybe, you can post here a less problematic image to see what comes out.

This photo was posted by Scribblemacher on the web.
It would be interesting to see if the script could handle some lighting issues, and a blue-ish color in part of the image

I managed to solve the problems of this image, but ran several steps and had to test various settings to get the final result.
